Supergroups, Travelling Wilburys got me thinking just now.

Is there a man more respected by his peers (as both a musician and person)?

I don´t think so.

It is debatable if McCartney really respected him as a musician.

He's been on the record in film and in interviews that he did.

George was so loved by many especially back in the late 60's and 70's.

My favorite Beatle by a long shot. Seeing Paul live playing "Something" with photos of George in the background was one of the best moments of my life.

Now? For sure. Absolutely.

About the time of Sergeant Pepper? Probably starting to brew (is he, is he not of John and Paul´s calibre?).

Remember, there was jealousy there, as well (George was a latent threat to both Paul and John).

What Harrison penned tunes did make it to Beatles albums, were nearly always absolutely sublime (and some of his, some of their best known, despite he maybe having done 2-3% of their work).

I have some well positioned contacts that work in the music business, and I have heard a LOT of stories. It's been reported to me that if you could ever manage to get a few beers in George, he would tell you that George Martin never thought he was good enough to be a Beatle and was always pushing to have him replaced with someone else.

Just what I've been told.

Personally, my favorite Beatle. With the best ex-Beatle solo career.

It took post Beatles stuff for Paul to start respecting George as a musician.

George is my favorite Beatle

George was the perfect guitarist for the perfect band. It seems the respect for him grew as he aged. The Beatles breaking up was probably the best thing that could have happened for his career.

John and Paul never respected him in the Beatles. They always made it sound like they were doing George a favor by allowing him to record one of his songs.

All you have to do is look at the huge list of credits on All Things Must Pass. George may have been the MOST respected Beatle of them all.

Yes. And I just love, love his voice. Just a calm, soothing, beautiful singer.

And now, this:

LINK

It is said that John, in particular, kept this song off the records.

When was it penned? I could see Lennon thinking this would absolutely banalize Across the Universe (which I love by the way, but it pales in comparison to Isn´t It a Pity).

Revisionism

As late as the Anthology sessions Paul was lecturing George on how to play the guitar.

From the Beatles Bible:

quote:

The song was one of the album's oldest; Harrison wrote it in 1966, found no outlet for it in The Beatles. He attempted to introduce the group to it on 25 and 26 January 1969, towards the end of the Get Back/Let It Be sessions, but to no avail.

During the 1969 sessions, Harrison revealed that John Lennon had vetoed The Beatles from working on Isn't It A Pity in 1966, and that Harrison had considered offering it to Frank Sinatra instead.

He's a control freak, I don't think it has to do with his respect for George as a musician.

I absolutely love Waiting On You All.... fantastic song.

And I love his humor; hearing him in interviews is great.
