Hard one. Jim Morrison, Robert Plant, Clapton and probably Rick Springfield.

You know a lot of these musicians are still around and performing so they are not really before anyone's time.
Rick Springfield is an interesting choice. I'm a fan but he wouldn't really pop into my head.
I grew up watching Elvis on television and hearing older friends and neighbors grovel over him but never did care for him when he was alive. When I was in my 30's I started listening and appreciated his talent. Same with Johnny Cash.

Sinatch. Just a bit before my time, but I'm glad my parents played him around the house when I was a kid. The undisputed number one pop singer of all time.

I love Buddy Holly, but I'll have to say Howlin' Wolf. Love his voice, love that era of the electric Chicago blues. The rocking chair album is so damn awesome.

Does before your time qualify as someone that died before you were born? Does is qualify as the music being made before you were born and the person may still be living?
If death, then it's Randy Rhoads especially because of how great of a composer he was and his overall influence on the guitar.

Would have to have seen where his career would've gone. Good work in such a short amount of time. Damn plane.......
