I saw them at the Spanish Inquisition tour some centuries back. In the middle of the show Greg Lake started acting like GG Allin and throwing his diarrhea all over the audience.

Used to start our high school band half-time shows with that announcement over the P.A.

Yeah, it was the 70's ... lol.

You must be of a certain age. I listened to them a lot, along with others, like Pink Floyd ....back in the day.

Loved them in the early-mid '70's. Carl Palmer was a badass.

A bullet had found him
His blood ran as he cried
No money could save him
So he laid down and he died

Saw them in Atlanta in the 80's. Cozy Powell was the drummer. Don't know why Palmer wasn't there. Great band.

One of the most overrated bands ever. Emerson and Palmer were technically superb musicians but Emerson couldn't compose for $hit and Palmer was the wankiest showoff this side of Neil Peart. As for Greg Lake, there was a fricking hack in every sense of the word

Lake was a helluva producer. Every album he produced for ELP and King Crimson went platinum. I think it was seven total.

Lake was the vocalist and until his voice was shot he had a great voice.

Of course, these guys did have monster egos. That keyboard solo by Emerson in Trilogy is one of the best ever in rock music.

I used to date a girl who's dad once hung out with these dudes. He loved talking about it.

That was common in power trios (almost the rule) and typically fatal in power trios that were also supergroups.

ELP stands out as a collection of great musicians, but I never really connected with the music. I was a big Asia fan and the biggest draw for me was Carl Palmer's drumming. I tend to get distracted by great drumming to a fault - Tool is especially tough for me to concentrate on anything other than the drums, for example.

Easily the most self-indulgent. They were each technically accomplished musicians, but the combination just never worked for me.

Why limit it to Neill Peart? Carl Palmer standing up to take a bow in the middle of songs is my lasting memory of seeing ELP live.

"Emerson couldn't compose for shite"

this is a piano concerto with 3 movements performed with the London Philharmonic that Emerson composed

I know nothing about classical music and next to nothing about any music composition, but I know what I like - a friend of mine who is a classical pianist tells me that Emerson is the best living piano player/composer that does both. and I do like this composition, even though again I know nothing about classical music. but I think it is erroneous to say he cannot, or is not a good composer
