The 13th Floor Elevators is another one of the first rock groups I listened to.

They were an Austin, Texas band often credited as being one of the first psychedelic bands in the history of rock n' roll.

Never heard them, but I've heard Billy Gibbons mention them.

Could you back off from this "remember" obsession of yours? Because I'm too young to remember the '60s.

But yes, I have heard of them.

They've been mentioned and songs posted countless times on this board. I saw Rocky open for the Black Angels a few years ago. He was decent but not what he was......and I assume you have watched the documentary about him.

I saw Roky at the Granada in Dallas when the film came out. Showed the film first and then he performed. Great night. Saw him later in Houston. He never seemed to open his eyes or look at the audience, but he howled.

Currently reading a book about a Houston recording studio and the section on them is fascinating. Their mystery van once got pulled over on the way to the studio. When the officer asked Roky if he was OK, Roky told the officer that he would have to speak to Roky's "third eye," pointing to his forehead where he pulled off a bandaid to reveal an ink drawing of an eye.

Don't worry, in a few years you'll be old enough to have an "obsession" of your own memories.

I saw Roky live in Austin this past NYE. Let's just say that he looked and sounded like he's truly lived life to the fullest.

Sorry, I don't come to the Music Board often enough to know that.

This is the book Kafka: amazon

It's kind of tedious at times, but a great history for someone like me who came along a lil too late to witness regional radio hits, some of which became big time (like George Jones). An amazing array of artists, from blues to zydeco to country and psychedelic were recording in the same local studios and sometimes playing the same clubs. It's the studio that Louisiana native Huey P. Meaux called home before he got busted by the police for doing fricked up shite.

Sorry if the reply came off as assholish but when you ask if anyone remembers something you're limiting the responses you'll get. If you ask if anyone likes an act you open it up to all age groups.

Actually I love hearing personal stories from people who saw bands back in the day. Did you ever see the Elevators? I presume they must have played NO; I wonder if they played the legendary Speakeasy in BR -- we have some posters who went to some shows there.

My best freind growing up had an aunt who was some kind of rock and roll groupie back in the day, so we discovered the Elevators when she gave him her amazing vinyl collection while we were in high school. Obviously, we never asked too many questions about how far the fandom went. But we've been fans for 20+ years since.
