We lost a fine one in Dickey Betts, no doubt. Where do you rank him in all time musicians?
Vevo has been playing The Allman Bros. Live at Great Woods a lot lately. I gotta say they were an incredible group.
When you rank Southern groups they have to be right there at the top. I don't know if we'll have the pleasure ever again of such a fine group.

They at the top and no other band is remotely close.

Greg, Duane, Dickey, Butch, Jaimoe, and Berry lineup was unmatched. Legendary.

Absolutely the best band

I’ve heard he got run out for various
Reasons including fighting with his girlfriend

I’ve heard Greg didn’t like him and was going to move to get him out but then ramblin man hit
Lots of band drama

Unpopular opinion, but I think Lynyrd Skynyrd, while Ronnie was alive, was the best southern rock band.

Before Duane died, ABB was untouchable. Duane and Greg were incredible. They were the core of the best band of their day. When Duane died, they weren’t the band they were before.

Skynyrd with Ronnie was better than ABB without Duane. When Ronnie and Steve were killed, and Ed King had already left, LS died with them. They are nothing but a tribute band now.

ABB was the best band around with Duane. It makes you wonder how good ABB would have been if Duane had survived.

ABB still was a great band after Duane. They had a lot of issues that they worked through and had opportunities to shine through the years. Dickey and Greg did an excellent job of keeping up the band together through the years. Getting Derek on board kept them pertinent to the end.

You should check out his son Duane Betts. He’s Dickey through and through. Some good music too!

Saw Dickie a few times when e was doing his on act. It was so good. He was a pioneer for southern rock.

Betts was an excellent musician, and the Allmans were much more than a
Southern rock band. Much more.
