Saw them at Fenway last week and it was amazing. Admittedly I am young and never got to see the real Dead with Jerry, but I still had a fantastic time and think John Mayer and Oteil fit in very well with them. How do other people that have seen them feel about it?

Side note: Does anyone know where to get posters from there shows on the internet, besides ebay where they are going for like $200?

I'm in the same boat. That being said, I enjoy Dead & Co. I've seen them 3 times and will be at both Wrigley shows this weekend.

Looks like you missed the artist sale. Ebay will be your best bet unless D&C sells them on their site. I know they have some for sale from last year on their site.

I think they are very good on certain songs that are in their wheelhouse (bluesy songs for Mayer for example), but the pacing is a bit too slow for me to really get into it. Would like to see them if they came around or it was in a place i wouldn't mind vacationing around - but not really into it enough to travel just for Dead & Co.

Oteil and Mayer are both great musicians.

Saw them both nights af Boulder. Went in with an open mind, not expecting much. It was absolutely amazing for me. The music was great, but the whole experience is what really set it apart for me. I was surrounded by good friends, made some new ones, enjoyed some mind bending substances, and danced the night away.

I never got to see Jerry, but I sure am grateful for his music and the fact it continues to live on through his fellow band mates and others.

Buying my JRAD tickets to Red Rocks soon!

I'll be at that JRAD show - first time at red rocks and I love JRAD -their tempo and their fast changes are awesome (plus Oteil will be playing bass for them in that concert).

Ya this past years JRAD shows were awesome, I've had trouble deciding which of the three was my favorite - also got to see them at Candler Park Fest in Atlanta and it was another great show.

I havnet been to a show yet, they hate the deep south apparently, but i dont dig the mayer vibe at all. Everyone seems to be drinking the kool aide though, and ill hold out my final judgement until i see them live, but with the crazy prices of everything it sure seems like a cash grab. That being said, the grateful dead became a cash grab as well their last few years. Im huge oteil fan and really enjoy the ballads hes been bringing into the fold. I think the best thing about all this is that the younger generation that didnt get to experience the grateful dead are at least getting to see and experience the vibes and good times associated with being a deadhead, warts and all.

Personally, id much rather see jrad ina small environment and actually pushing the limits and breaking barriers in the amazing songs the dead have written and performed for years. Dead and co sounds so slow to me and its hard listening to mayer sing and copy jerrys licks.

I miss the fat man.

Should be a stellar show for your first Red Rocks. I haven't gone to any shows down there yet this year.

Hoping to catch Yonder/Govt Mule and JRAD both in August. Went to 5 shows last year. Expensive to see shows on the Rocks compared to some smaller venues, but when you're there -- it's all worth it.

any tips on a hotel in the area for that night - sticking around for phish on the weekend but wouldn't mind staying somewhere outside the city for couple nights. I'm getting in Wednesday night and planning on driving up to Boulder and find a good bar to or two to check out Thursday before the JRAD show)

You could stay in Golden or even in the town of Morrison if you want. We've stayed in a couple houses in Golden, and also stayed in Morrison's one and only hotel (?), and had a blast on that little strip.

The majority of the time, we stay out in Denver out of convenience. If you aren't from that area or don't visit, you might ask yourself how it could be convenient being over 30 min away from Red Rocks. Well downtown Denver has anything you might want, and you don't have to drive anywhere. You then pay in advance for a party bus ticket that will pick you up at a bar and drop you back off in Denver at an after party. You'll have to excuse me if you are a Red Rocks vet.

Enjoy, it's the best venue in the world

Oh i've been to Denver multiple times, just never to Red Rocks and I'll be staying in the downtown area over the weekend so was looking for something a bit different for Thursday. Thanks.

- Is the little strip on Morrison decent for a few post show beers and that kind of thing? I'm looking at it now and may go that route if so.

Also can you think of the name of that hotel - looked online but couldn't find anything

the hotel in Morrison is the cliff house...it's awesome but expensive
wife and I will be back there in august

there's a great bar right there on the strip and a couple good restaurants. We stayed an extra day there last year just to hang out. Also dinosaur ridge is not too far and is a must see

Sounds like these guys got ya covered with hotel information. I usually crash with a friend in Lakewood.

Giving a listen to Oteil singing "Comes a Time" from Saturday at Citi Field now.

I've seen quite a few Grateful Dead shows dating back to 1984 when I was a teenager. Followed the band when I was in college ; late 80's ~ early 90's. GD shows had a certain aura that is indescribable, very spiritual like. You just had to be there to feel the mood and electricity. The band was obviously centered around Jerry who would control the audience with his riffs, solos, and voice.

Outside the concert venue, parking lots and camping areas were a freak show (especially in the 1980's); nothing like you see today at concerts. Once you passed through the turn-style, you literally felt an emotional high with anticipation of the first song. When the show was over, you couldn't wait to do it all over again. Get in the car, listen to newly exchanged bootlegs on the Alpine cassette deck, and road trip to the next venue.

No one will ever replace the fat man. Haynes, Kimock, Anastasio, and Mayer were all selected to sit in and carry on The Grateful Dead tradition and catalog of songs. The current configuration of Dead and Company, takes me back to my feelings from 25+ yrs ago. Although the shows are not quite the same, IMO it's the best we have right now so long as Bob, Bill, and Mickey are still alive.

Clearly this is Bob's band as he has taken over the leadership role much like Jerry did when he was alive. If you watch the current band members interact on stage, everything goes through Bob who appears to be having fun at 70 yrs old. D&Co are also experimenting outside the box as traditional song sequences such: as Scarlet > Fire and China > Rider have new variations. They recently played a Scarlet > Shake, and Help > Slipknot > Estimated > Eyes > D&S then closed with Franklins.

I'll be 50 in February and will continue to see 4-5 shows a year. Doesn't matter if it's D&Co, JRAD, DSO, or solo tours by the remaining original band members. Each band has their own unique style of carrying on the Grateful Dead's legacy. I'm looking forward to this weekend's shows at Wrigley
