I read an old interview somewhere where they asked Richards why he didn't end up overdosing like some musicians of his generation and he said that he used largely for creative purposes and when he was doing heroin would carefully measure and document the doses he would take so that he did not do something stupid. Even if he had quit for awhile he would factor that in when he started using again so that he wouldn't take too large of a dose due to tolerance levels. I had to respect that on some level.

That's the smartest drug user ever.

The list of still-performing "Rock Stars" who might - MIGHT be "greater" than Kanye is small - McCartney and Elton John don't count as they are folk singers at this point. And personally I think that Kanye is more legendary than 2/3rds of the performers listed below...

Top Selling Music Artists According to RIAA

quote:

BEATLES, THE 178
BROOKS, GARTH 135
PRESLEY, ELVIS 134.5
LED ZEPPELIN 111.5
EAGLES 101
JOEL, BILLY 81.5
JACKSON, MICHAEL 76
PINK FLOYD 75
JOHN, ELTON 73.5
STREISAND, BARBRA 72.5

I will admit Brosef Stalin that I was surprised to discover that Garth Brooks recently passed up Elvis Presley as the highest-selling solo artist in music history.

However, remember that Brooks has the advantage of emerging during an era in which the population is substantially larger than Elvis' heyday and music is now much more widely available due to the Internet.

Also, do record sales equate to rock stardom as much as reputation, talent, notoriety, stage presence, innovation, influentiality, etc.?

Brooks is well-respected in country music, but does he command a crowd in the same manner as some of the most legendary frontmen in music history?

Are his exploits highly publicized throughout mainstream media and his memorabilia as valuable as a ticket to his concert?

Not much different than a doctor's approach to prescription medication. Good for Keith!

I accidentally left Liam Gallagher off the list. He's the best rock star of my generation. Knocks up bishes, takes hard drugs, gets kicked off airlines, etc. etc.

True, but far fewer people actually purchase albums nowadays. I mean, FFS, the Top 40 is essentially made by teenage girls, who are probably the only people buying CDs.

Hence the popularity of Kanye West.

I would go so far as to be a total music snob and say that anyone who listens to and likes his music is as pathetic as he is.

I would go so far as to say that anyone who listens to and likes Kanye's music is as much of a dumbass as he is.

I don't like Slipknot or Stone Sour.

Stonesour is alright. They're a lot less of a personality band than Slipknot is. But they follow similar themes.

ive never heard a kanye song, and never will, but obviously he has lots of listeners. BUT, to refer to him as a rock star is just plain dumb, and even dumber for him to do it.

Stopped reading right there. You can't tell the potency of heroin until you inject it. So carefully measuring his doses don't mean shite. He's a rich lucky good at doin H junkie.

Both should go away, but especially Corey Taylor. It's incredible how Slipknot needed 18 members to sound horrible.
