I don't exactly despise Skynyrd, but nearly four decades of overexposure have rendered their music almost unlistenable. And a lot of their fans represent the worst in redneckism.

I like a couple of their songs in which Tommy Shaw sings lead. Hated the whole Dennis DeYoung theatrical thing.

I am a big Rush fan, but I can't stand their most played song, "Tom Sawyer". I also think Getty Lee's voice is a little annoying, but that are absolutely fantastic musicians. What you have to remember is that what you are hearing is being made by 3 people, and that's exactly what those 3 people sound like live. Getty Lee is literally singing while slapping bass in mixed meter time and playing the synthesizer with his feet at the same time, no joke.

I dislike a lot of them, but Foreigner is the one I truly hate.

The one on here I understand the least is The Doors.

A very hard band for most listeners to get into. They're admittedly not very accessible and definitely don't play for the mainstream.

Prog rock/metal in general is not universally loved.

Every defense of Rush sounds just like this - "but the musicianship!" And, I will admit, they are excellent musicians qua musicians. But there's no musicality or melody. To me the "musicianship" comes off as overbusy drumming and unnecessarily complicated chords.

To me the polar opposite of Rush is the Rolling Stones who are, in terms of technical musicianship, total train wrecks (sidemen excepted). But their songs are memorable and musical.

"Fly by Night" actually has a recognizable chorus that I can immediately sing in my head, so I will grant that. Limelight doesn't, plus it's in an awkward time signature. Which is kind of the Rush catch 22. Of course playing in 11/4 or whatever demonstrates impeccable musicianship, but it doesn't actually *sound good.*

don't really care for boston or red hot chili peppers - they are ok but I don't own any of their tunes.

since this thread is about music you despise - classic rock - I have to get this off my chest - the steel drum shite that you hear in the islands - really they can just let me listen to the seagulls or the breeze and step away from the steel drums.
