Probably the only GNR song I truly hate. It's all subjective, though. Patience is up there. All posted entries in this thread are great. Except November Rain. That was an abortion. The video and Stephanie Seymour are awesome though.

Really? Even the first two solos? Those things are objectively sublime, man.

The problem is that the narrator is clearly Axl, who was the midwestern farm boy who caught the bus to LA. It's his reaction to LA, and yes, he is putting himself in a position of superiority. It's not a character, it's autobiographical.

Still, the song is legitimately terrific.

November Rain is too slow for my liking. It seemed like a sellout song. I just like good guitar driven riffs though. I'm not saying it's not a decent song but just too slow and sappy for me to listen to.

The song is neither racist nor homophobic. The story - from the standpoint of its narrator - is one of marginalization and isolation. The message neither elevates whites to a position of superiority, nor condemns homosexuals/homosexuality. The "small town white boy" is expressing anger and uses offensive terms. The song is about recognizing and hearing that anger, without necessarily endorsing or approving the racist and homophobic undertones.

Nice spin. It's pretty racist.

It's narrated from the viewpoint of a racist, but that does not necessarily make the song itself racist. I don't agree with Baloo that it is autobiographical; or even if it is, I think it's talking about a past Axl and not the present narrator.

Awesome song, I really like all the songs Izzy sings on the UYI albums, but especially this and 14 years.

good song, not my favorite, but i love the whole album. The only song i usually skip is November Rain, just cause it was played to freaking death.

I think this is why I grew to dislike it so much. I don't even like Sweet Child O Mine anymore because of this and I loved it when it was first released.

Seems convenient as the song makes no effort to decry the lyrics and Axl was known to spout off this nonsense regularly.
