It gets better and better with subsequent plays. Now that I'm over the novelty, if this is technically a cover of both songs, simultaneously, and not a true "mashup" as he admits in the preface in another version I found, then it shoots to the top of all time GOAT covers, with things like Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower and Buckley's Hallelujah, IMHO.

Both of the original songs are pretty charged, emotionally. Cornell's combination is able to combine that and intensify it.
