Good for sure.

I'll add Big Head Todd and the Monsters. They had a few hits, but never got the acclaim I think they deserve. They're live album "Live Monsters" is fantastic.

That's another good one I forgot all about. "Broken Hearted Savior", "It's Alright", and "Bittersweet" are all well-written & awesome songs.

Toadies were pretty well known. Screaming Trees was the one I always thought should have been bigger.

They were HUGE in England.

That entire album was amazing. Not a bad song on it.

I mentioned Twilight Singers without having read through the whole thread. Obviously, I am on board with your answer as well.

The Prayer Boat. Download the album Polichinelle if you are a Jeff Buckley fan. This was very unknown band from Ireland. Unbelievable talent is Emmet Tinley. This was my favorite album of the late 90's.

On that same note, the band Ours (may be considered very early 00's). Distorted Lullabies is a flawless album.

Cosign: Big Wreck, Screaming Trees, hooDoo Gurus, Hayden, Afghan Whigs...and I would like to add Crash Test Dummies, VERY underrated -> "Afternoon & Coffeespoons" may be a top 5 song of the 90's.

Saw them live and it was terrible. I shite you not, at one point the guy said, "if you keep booing we're just gonna keep playing."

Was that in Jackson at Hal and Mal's circa 1997ish? If so I was there as well. They put on a turrible show...

A few off the top of my head (without reading the thread)

Paw
Prong
Gruntruck
Stompbox
Afghan Wigs
Ian Moore

One of these doesn't fit with the rest, I know.

Stress was a great album; not a band out there that sounded like these guys.

Another one I'll toss out is Sugartooth. They had a video on MTV for "Sold My Fortune", but the rest of their debut was actually pretty solid, too.

They're much more 80's than 90's, but I just heard "On Top of the World" by Cheap Trick on Sirius and I was reminded of how awesome that band was, how many incredible songs they have, and how mediocre their carreer has been. It's a fricking shame.

Some other great hits by Cheap Trick:
She's Tight
Surrender
California Man
Clock Strikes Ten
Dream Police
He's a Whore
I Want You to Want me
If You Want My Love

Dammit, I need to hit iTunes and make a playlist.

[ETA] I just saw that 1) There's an 80's version of this thread, and 2) Cheap Trick's heyday was late 70's early 80's....

But I'm leaving this post, Cheap Trick rocks and more people should know it.
