Put a 4-5 piece band together to form your personal supergroup. I’ll start.

Forewarning: Most of my experience is rock bands from grunge-post grunge.

Front man(woman): Layne Staley
Before heroine took his teeth. His pitch and control to navigate through 3-4 octaves so effortlessly was incredible.

Lead guitar: EVH. We all have our opinions, and there are several other obvious alternatives.

Bass: Shavo Odadjian (Sys of a Down). Downvotes incoming, but this is my draft pick.

Drums: Jimmy Chamberlin.
I get it…Bonham, Phil Collins, Neil Part, Grohl, etc. JC’s rapid ride crashes and hi-hat splashes especially on Tonight, Tonight were enough to pick an underdog.

Backup vocals: Art Garfunkel
Could’ve been John Oates. Both would’ve been interesting to pair with a dynamic lead vocalist from the hair band-post grunge era.

Nothing about your picks, but why would you choose Grohl as an example of a better drummer than Chamberlain? He can't touch him.

I agree, but many would disagree simply on name recognition.

James Jamerson

My FIL was the bassist for a pretty prominent Louisiana Zydeco and Swamp Pop band, and he always referenced Jamerson as his biggest influence

Forgive me, but is this meant literally, or is it a reference to “biting” vocals, or something similar?

Literally. He was asked to do a Pink Floyd cover (I think for the movie The Faculty), a short time before he completely isolated before his death. He barely had any teeth left and it was shocking to see how much it affected his tone and control

Yikes! I’d not heard of this.

It’s wild to know how closely his sad ending mirrored the song “Them Bones.”

If we are writing songs, the front man is Paul McCartney, otherwise:

Front man: Freddie Mercury

Lead guitar: EVH

Rhythm guitar/second lead: Steve Clark

Bass/utility: John Paul Jones

Drums: John Bonham (or Danny Carey)
