some good observations from The Atlantic

quote:

The assumption that there is no real difference among black people is exactly what racism is. Our differences, our right to our individuality, is what makes us human. The point of racism is to rob black people of that right. It would be no different than me assuming that Rachel Weisz must necessarily have something to say about black-Jewish relations, or me assuming that Paisley must know something about barbecue because he's Southern.

This is played out, racism isn't only against black people.

Does Brad understand that West Virginia is not Southern? That their very existence relates to them not being Southern?

But...they're white trash..... All white trash is southern, right?

I've never known a single person that would even slightly agree with what you've said here. The fact that you think that Jimmy Page, perhaps second only to Jimi Hendrix as the most influential guitarist to ever pick up six strings, is meh shows nothing but incompetence. Undoubtedly, Paisley himself would be humbled to ever be compared to 'Page.'

-Thought this to be perfectly fitting-

"...what you've just said ... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

We aren't discussing who is a bigger influence. Of course Page is a bigger influence, he is an icon for an entire genre. I'm talking about pure skill and talent with a guitar. Paisley could play every note of any song Jimmy Page has ever played with ease.

You listed great influential guitarists.

Page should not even be mentioned

Pagey's legacy comes from redefining what music was for a whole generation. The skill and talent he continues to possess as a musician -let alone a guitarist- is beyond anything that an artist such a BP could ever hope to achieve. BP is famous for producing generic tracks about life in the LP. However, any guitarist with his status should be able to shred any lick LZ ever laid to vinyl, but only because Pagey was the one inspiring them to pick up the instrument in the first place.

I did not mean that Page shouldn't be mentioned as an influential guitarist, he should. But like I said, I'm purely talking about skill with a guitar.

Hypothetically, if BP and Page could play a game of "horse" with the guitar, if you will. Where the second person must play what the first one played. BP would win 100% of the time. Once again, I'm not bashing Page and what he and LZ did, but he is no where close to as good as BP on the guitar.

That's what's so frustrating to me about Paisley. He obviously has musical talent, yet continues to churn out this tripe that I would expect from an Aldean.
