Surprised I haven't seen a review. I wasn't able to make it. Anyone?

Here is my review from the Shreveport concert in case anyone is interested:

quote:

Overall, it met my expectations. Bob Dylan is 75 years old, but he sings like he's 100. I can deal with that for the most part, but there are no attempts to sing his songs the way they were recorded. It would take about 25 or 30 seconds into a song like Desolation Row or Don't Think Twice It's Alright before you even realize that's what he is singing. The popular classics were few and far between, the biggest being Tangled Up In blue and Blowing In The Wind, which were virtually unrecognizable. Melodies, keys, and beats are changed entirely for these songs and it's not very enjoyable to listen to. Oddly, he sang 4 covers of Frank Sinatra songs during the show. I found this to be a very bold and offputting choice because they sound like shite sung by Bob Dylan and they were not well known Sinatra tunes. Bob Dylan does not interact with the crowd at all during the show. No intro, no stories, no comments, no goodbye, no band introduction, and no bow at the end, only an awkward moment of him standing up expressionless while the lights fade and people wonder if the show is really over. Then the house lights come on and you leave somewhat disappointed. I give this show a hard C-. It was basically only good for saying "I saw Bob Dylan live." My humble opinion is that I do not really recommend the show, much to my disappointment.

Particularly after having seen Robert Plant there in March, the Bob Dylan concert pales in comparison, although they are not particularly comparable artists. Take it FWIW.

From what little I got to see of the show in Shreveport, I would say that the poster's review is quite accurate. Many were leaving on their own about 20 mins into the show because it was so bad.

That would have been my same review from 1986ish at The Audubon Zoo. Worst concert I've been to by far, and I'm a fan.

I went to the Shrevepirt concert, and am wondering if I saw the same thing everyone else did. I thought Bob nailed it! I travelled 4 1/2 hours there and back and it was well worth my time. I think if everybody would focus on the music, they'd find that what Bob Dylan is doing right now is nothing short of impressive.

I do not question his songwriting, in fact, my favorite song he played that night was Long and Wasted Years, a newer track, but other than that, I am not sure what was impressive about it.

There were more folks walking out of the Shreveport concert early than those getting thrown out over cell phones. Remarks I heard was what a piece of crap the show was and how they wasted their money. There's no excuse for that. I don't give a damn how accomplished or popular you are. As your fanbase ages, they get more discerning about how they spend their money and time, and if they aren't happy, they won't be coming back.

Haters gonna hate, but I thought the show was great. The BR crowd was lively and very appreciative. It looked like a full house. Bob was smiling and seemed in good spirits. His band is really fantastic and tight. The highlights for me were Tangled Up In Blue, Desolation Row, and the great encore Blowin' In The Wind with violin and upright bass. I like the modern interpretations. Overall, a well curated setlist that spans his body of work. I enjoyed the Sinatra covers more than I expected as well, something kinda endearing about a old man like Bob singing those songs. I saw him a few years ago at UNO and thought this show was a good deal better. The more intimate setting helped a lot. I'd see him again at the river center theatre.

Full disclosure: I'm a big Dylan fan and have grown accustomed to his present-day voice over the years through his recent studio albums and various live recordings.

The show was mediocre and I got five years probation for checking a text, so I left like a LSU fan at halftime!

Sent my dad to see Zimmy a year or so ago when he was in New Orleans. Dad's an old hippie, so as you can imagine, Dylan one of my dad's music idols.

He described the show just like most of you have. Although it was great to see Dylan, I don't think he really enjoyed the show that much. It was more the idea that he was there in the presence of someone who had such a great impact on his life.

I tried to warn people about the show--especially young people. I would have gone even with the bad reviews--I mean it's DYLAN--but it seemed like more of a hassle than was worth it. And River Center Theater is a terrible venue.

I felt the same way your dad did. Pretty cool being only about 30 feet from BD.

Yea, if people went in (which I'm assuming most did) expecting early 60s-era Bob Dylan, they were going to be disappointed; though it's there own fault if they hadn't listened to any of his newer albums (i.e. the christmas album) and realized this. The dude doesn't have the chops to sing anymore and, I feel, only continues to tour for the love of the game. I saw Bob about 8 years ago at The Woodlands Pavilion and it was the same thing; people leaving because they weren't expecting what they received. I had a blast though and added Bob to the list of "I saw them before they passed".

I saw him a few years ago and I probably could make out 2-5 words of all the songs he sang.

It was cool because I got to see him....but he's impossible to understand.

I was at that show as well, and I agree that review was
spot on. Show was uneven at best, and made for a lackluster evening. It didn't help that one of my car windows was busted in the parking lot during the show.

That review sounds pretty accurate. My parents went to the Shreveport show and enjoyed it, I saw Dylan with them in New Orleans last year and he sounded really good to me. When I went the audience was extremely grateful and Dylan even looked like he was having fun up there.

You have to either be a hardcore Dylan fan like me, or just have the desire to say you sat less than 50 feet away from a living legend. I think Dylan knows he's only playing to his die-hard fans now.

Surprised I haven't seen a review.

Being it was in the River Center, any review should start out with "The acoustics in this building SUCK!"

I saw him in '06 or '07 at Jazzfest. He sounded awful and played 1 hit, All Along the Watchtower. It was cool to see him, but his voice just hasn't stood the test of time unfortunately.
