Vince Gill - Go rest high on that mountain

Was written in large part about Keith Whitley

quote:

Didn't know that Whitley was the subject of that song. Vince Gill absolutely sings the shite out of that.

That is who Gill had in mind when he started writing the song, and he finished it and recorded it to honor his brother who died. It is a great song. It has been sung at many funerals.

Gill and Patty Loveless performance of that song at George Jones' funeral was amazing. Did you see it? Vince almost broke down a few times and Patty had to carry him through.

Say what ?

quote:

The song was inspired by a high school crush of Billy Joel's, Virginia Callahan. The boy/narrator believes that the girl is refusing him because she comes from a religious Catholic family and that she believes sex before marriage is sinful.[2] He sings,
"You Catholic girls start much too late,
but sooner or later it comes down to fate.
I might as well be the one."

California Uber Alles by Dead Kennedys for former Gov Jerry Brown

The War on Errorisn by NOFX for G.W. Bush

The funniest has to be a song that The Vandals did about the old guitarist band leader from SNL moving into their hood disguised as the guitarist for the Pretenders. Cant recall the song title.
