In my Utopian world, Thin Lizzy's 'Cowboy Song' goes to the top of the charts..and stayed there for 7 weeks..

Plimsouls perfect pop song 'A Million Miles Away" does the same for 11 weeks..

Joe Strummer, Paul Westerberg, Josh Rouse, Sturgill Simpson, etc..have more YouTube hits than Justin Bieber..

It's a beautiful world I tell ya..

Level 42's 'Lessons In Love'(my fav song of theirs) reached #12 on Billboard 100, just five slots lower than 'Something About You' charted.

Love And Rockets also had "No New Tale To Tell" and "Ball Of Confusion". They were less successful than "So Alive" but it still excludes them from being in this category

"So Alive" made it to #3 on Billboard, and "No Big Deal" peaked at #82. The other songs you mentioned didn't chart at all (according to my brief research).

I had forgotten about "No New Tale to Tell"...I will retract L&R from my OHW list.

Right, going strictly by chart data is deceptive. I don't even remember "No Big Deal". I'm guessing it was the follow up single to the big hit?

Yep, sure was. As soon as I read the title, I remembered that I liked that song too...just forgot about it.

I realize that Weller has had a good career outside of Style Council, but I'd go with My Ever Changing Moods.

Major Tom - Peter Schilling

Words cannot do justice to describe this German TV performance of the German version of Major Tom. The Germans took the 80s TV lip-syncing, over-producing trend and took it to a whole new level.

I think that performance inspired the fraternity skit of the tri lambs in Revenge of the Nerds.

Does that song remind you of 80's clubs in Houston? It does me.
