So in the last 13 years?

That grossly stupid IMO

There's been a ton of great music In that time span. But you probably base that statement off of the radio

Grossly stupid? Ok whatever, but its undeniable that the majority of the music put out recently pales in comparison in originality to music in our past generations

And i listen to the radio for two things, traffic updates and sports radio.

It's definitely music, it's just horrifically bad.

That said, the 80's was filled with men with big hair singing love ballads and disco pants.

If you're looking at it strictly from a hard rock angle then this is true. The vast majority of "hair metal" was terrible but that severely oversimplifies the decade. Everything else about the decade musically was very solid. Even with the debacle of hair metal, the 80s produced MANY of the greatest metal albums of all time. Besides, the 80s strength was its depth of great music across so many genres. Picking the one major weak link in the decade doesn't mean the decade in general sucked musically.

"The real rock came from the late 60's early 70's, and picked back up in the grundge age of the 90s"

Most of the best grunge is included in the early 90s which were still in the music video era. (early 80s thru early half of the 90s)

Edit: One underrated thing about the 80s I forgot to mention that I don't think is appreciated by many is that many of the legendary bands and artists from the 60s and 70s were still making great new music in the 80s. It's the last decade where a lot of that was still happening.

I don't know that I'd be what you call a Gov't Mule "fan" but I do think a few of their songs are brilliant. Good catch though as I did try to incorporate their name into my username.

I'd have to agree with that.

I undoubtedly listen to music from the 2000s more than any other decade. Sure plenty of shitty music has been made in the past 10 years, but you could say that about any time period.

All music from 1999 till now has been horrifically bad?

Do you understand how much music has been created since 1999?

That's completely retarded

90% of mainstream music or "pop" music has been terrible during this time. In all fairness there has been SOME pretty good underground or non mainstream music but that's also kinda the point. You now have to go digging and searching for the kind of quality that was widespread and mainstream throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, and most of the 90s. You use to be able to simply cut on FM radio to hear great music. Turn on the radio now and the lack of quality speaks for itself. It's telling about how far music has fallen when a group like Cold Play is considered a legendary group. Don't even get me started on modern day cRAP

99% of the indie stuff produced to day is muddled shite and sounds alike. There is good music out there but it doesn't compare to previous decades in qty or quality. I still find stuff worth listening to but as soon as something decent comes out, a half dozen sound alikes come out with the same stuff.

Don't P on Coldplay cuz they made big which is exactly what most bands want. To sell out huge arenas.

I would def. agree that the music on the radio right now is real bad. Probably the worst it has ever been. Ever

Music hasn't really gotten much worse; worse music is just getting more exposure now.

There are plenty of excellent bands out there today, but you'll never hear about them; they're buried under all of the auto-tuned crap that dominates today's top 40 charts.

So you see, a lot of good music is still being made; it's just far harder to find.

Lots of pop music has always sucked, and that's that. It hasn't changed, back in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's... people said the same things that they do now.

People who say there's no good music today are just too godamn lazy to look for it.

You're entitled to your opinion but the 80s was an incredibly diverse and deep for music across nearly every imaginable genre. The 60s and early 70s was the golden age of rock n roll, R&B, and funk, but the 80s were also notable for very solid across an incredibly diverse number of genres.

I guess we see it differently. I see the 80s as more being propped up by artists that originated in the 70s (and even 60s) than for being known for outstanding original artists that began their careers in the 80s.

That doesn't speak well for the 1999 and on time period. Before then you had the same amount of good hard to find music AND boatloads of good music on the radio and on the charts. That's the difference. There is also a rap/hip hop/urbanization of the great majority of modern pop music in the worst kind of way too. This has led to a huge de-emphasis of actual instrument playing and use of auto tune. Even the better rap songs end up sampling hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Don't get your feelings hurt because many people don't like your music.

There are still good bands out there, but most of that indie crap is uninspiring for my tastes. There are reasons most people have never heard of much of the stuff being produced. It's average.

Interesting decade. I didn't care much for the retreaded bands of the 70's and the stuff they produced in the 80's. A lot of the new stuff was very good though.

It's just my take.

I grew up with the music of the late 60s and early 70s and as someone noted earlier that is a period that stands way up there. I'm not saying I didn't like the music of the 80s, just that I'll take other decades over it.
