side question -

I think we can all pretty much agree that the USA and UK are 1 and 2 in terms of musical talent (There's probably a lot of debate around which is 1 and which is 2, though.)

Who's #3?

I would say Australia then Canada.

Check out The Rubens. Bit of a Black Keys rip but decent stuff. LIke "My Gun." Better than Jet, that's for sure....

2 of my absolute favorite artists are Australian, John Butler and Xavier Rudd. John Butler Trio's music has changed a lot over the years, and while I prefer the older sound, I still dig the new stuff as well. They have a new album out soon. Most people have heard of JBT, but not that many know of Xavier. I saw him at HOB in Houston a few years ago and he puts on an amazing show. Check them out:

John Butler - Ocean (this is the best youtube version)

Xavier Rudd - Come Let Go

Xavier Rudd - Let Me Be

Australia:

You Am I - Tuesday & You Am I - Soldier & You Am I - Please Dont Ask me to Smile (best Aussie band of the past 25 years)
Midnight Oil - Forgotten Years (a close second)
Hunters and Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me (the unofficial anthem of Oz)
The Go-Betweens - Streets of Your Town
Augie March - One Crowded Hour

New Zealand:

Neil & Tim Finn and any band associated with the two (Crowded House, Split Enz, Finn Bros.)
The Flying Nun Label (The Clean, Bats, Chills, etc.)
Surf City - Free The City & Surf City - Mt. Kill

edit: and who can forget this gem from The Lost Boys soundtrack Jimmy Barnes and INXS - Good Times (Oz)

INXS - Devil Inside (Live @ Wembley Stadium 1991)

This performance kicks so much arse. Hutch's one of the most underrated frontmen of all time.

Tame Impala is the best aussie band!!(In my opinion the best band period) Anything Kevin Parker produces/mixes is pure gold..
Their related bands also from Australia include POND and The Growl are also the shite.

Pure psychedelic nectar to my ears!!!

Tame Impala- Flow

Tame Impala- Sun

POND- Cloud City

POND- Dig Brother

POND- Annie Orangetree

The Growl- Smoke It Down

The Growl- Liarbird
