The one on government has a decent selection but the records are overpriced.

What's the best record shop in BR? About to get my late grandpa's player from '57 (got it for his 16th bday) restored and looking to add to my vinyl collection.

That is a nice receiver and turntable. I owned a 2252b a couple years ago. Loved it, and kinda wish I still had it. I'd love to own a 2270 or 2325

Saw you owned multiple of the old silver face marantz...
Did you ever have the 2330? The powerful one w 130 watts per channel. Have my eye on one and was looking for opinions.

Both the 2325 and 2330 are highly regarded as one of the receivers that Marantz made.

I almost got my hands on a 2325 one time. I saw one go up on ebay and I sent the seller a message asking about a trade. I tried to trade my 2252B for it plus $200 cash. I made the big mistake of doing this all outside of ebay and didn't require signature for delivery on my 2252B. Of course the guy said he never got it, and wouldn't send the 2325. Even though it showed as delivered to a screened in porch of a duplex. So I lost the 2252B...still bumbed about it. I actually had another 2252B at the time, so it wasn't a huge deal. At that point, I was buying, fixing, flipping so many marantz receivers that I was still ahead, money-wise, so it wasn't a huge deal. But still, very dumb on my part.

that's painful dude.... hate to hear it

My next pursuit will be some high end vintage bookshelf speakers. The large advent sound great and were free, but a little too large for where I need them to go.

The vintage audio can be an addictive hobby

Truth. I don't do it as much anymore because I have a lot less time now compared to a year or two ago.

My dad gave me his old Sherwood receiver. It's a great receiver but I think I blew a capacitor recently. It kept having a burning smell, and one day I heard it pop and started smoking. I'd fix it but just don't have time. It will sit in my garage for a while before I get around to it.

May be coming into a free Sherwood s-8600
you know anything about that one?

I think it was one of the first models after they switched from tube to solid state

too bad I'd love to have an old tube amp

I don't knwo much about the s-8600. It looks like something from the early 80's, since it has the digital tuner display.

I have the S-7900A

It's a great sounding receiver. Sherwood made and still makes good quality receivers.

my mistake, its actually a s 7600, which is a 60s model

I'm trying to pace the model number off of a grainy iphone pic, brother in law moved into old house w this receiver left behind and said I could take it.

Good to hear the old sherwoods sound good, think I/m going to see what I can do with it

I just put the Pro-Ject Debut 3 Carbon 'table in the rig for shits and grins (the white one), and I gotta say...while it doesn't have the extension and fluidity of the big VPI to its right, that little table can hold its own. I am impressed with it every time I use it.
The U-turn is also a good table, but the Pro-Ject allows a few upgrades as you get more into vinyl (such as acrylic platter upgrade, power supply upgrade, center weights, and speed control boxes). That may be something to consider.

They are both hard to beat for the $$.
