11 albums (vinyl) for a penny. That penny that I taped to that offer and sent in is the only one they ever got from me. I think I did the same to BMG.

BMG and CD's

Nah... it was like you only had to buy one more at regular price. (and shipping) Was it you get half up front and then the rest?

Yep.. and if you referred a friend you got four free albums/cassettes. A friend signed me up with my middle name..I would cancel the account and my first name and sign up again in and end up with albums I never wanted.

You had to buy 6 more cassette tapes at like $23 each when they added in tax shipping and handling.

Then they sent you those shitty Xerox covers with the 2 red lines instead of the actual retail packaging.

My roommate and I got into a bit of a racket in the early 90's with Columbia House. We'd sign up for the deal, get the CD's, then take them to Walmart for a refund. This was back when Walmart took just about any exchange, no questions asked, even without a receipt which we obviously never had.

Tried it with BMG, but they had different bar codes and they wouldn't take them.

If your dad had a brain, he'd call them up on your behalf, tell them how old you are, remind that the contract was unenforceable, and that, as such, you would not be buying six CD's from them. And then you wouldn't have heard from them again until you did it again under a new name.

Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

They promised this:

Then what you actually got was this:

and those fricking half cent tapes they used would start squeaking like chipmunks 6 months later to the point they were unlistenable.

So Columbia House.
