Anybody still buy vinyls, cassettes, or CDs?
Posted by heehaw on 10/9/13 at 4:40 pm00
It had been a couple years since I had checked out a second hand music shop, so over the weekend I went to a couple. Got a few nice finds:
Dylan and the Dead (CD)
The Chronic by Dre (Vinyl)
Miles in the Sky and Bitches Brew (Vinyl)
Super Blues by Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, and Little Walter (Cassette)
Dark Side of the Moon (Vinyl)

I still buy CD's, if they are cheaper or the same as mp3's and at live shows (not national arena shows)but smaller venue shows.

I go to the record store every Wednesday for student discount day and grab a few vinyls. Every now and then I'll go to a thrift store or antique shop and snag some cheapos
Really the only CDs I'll buy at ones at smaller concerts if I like the band and want to support them.

I still buy CDs. If I'm paying for it, I want it to be uncompressed. I've downloaded a lot of mp3's for free but the quality of the mp3 encoding is often poor and so I'd rather do it myself. Plus on my music server at home, I prefer FLAC over mp3.

I buy tons of CDs. Much higher quality than mp3s. I then rip them to FLAC and create a mp3 copy for my iPod as well.
Exactly this.

I have about 9000 CDs total.

Which translates to ~1.5TB of 320kbps mp3s.

But lost them along with my B&O marble based turntable in a divorce from my first wife.

Best places to buy vinyl besides atomic pop shop?

I buy mixtapes from homeless rappers all the time

Those are pretty damn amusing. Any rapper dishing out tapes in front of Reggie's I'll gladly grab. But most get thrown out the window before I make it home

I haven't bought a CD in years. Started collecting vinyl about 6 years ago.

Yeah she did it just to spite me. Overall I still made out well, but those B&O models are hard to find these days.
