Anybody ever modify a guitar or other stringed instrument,to string differently?

I just did this on my 6 string banjo,so I could get a more authentic banjo sound, but still use different guitar open tunings.I only had to make a custom nut.
I am liking the results.

I put electric strings on my acoustic, that was fun for a few days.

Took an old Peavy guitar... put bass strings on E A D and tuned the whole thing down to open C
Use it for Blues based Metal... epic low end and still have plenty of highs for lead
Its gimmicky but fun

Put a pickup in a cello and ran it through distortion and a triple rectifier stack.

That sounds badass
I made a few records drop C using gauges 54 to 18. Makeshift baritone guitar if you will. Crazy tones through a Orange th30 with a Orange 1/2 stack
