I caught them at the beginning of it, at the end of ''13... If you are a fan, go.. Well worth it..

Yeah, there's no Bob or Chirs (or Slim even)... But there is still the brilliance of Paul and Tommy, who is the embodiment of Rock n' Roll...

And on the plus side, they have it togther and you get to hear all the songs you love... Not like back in the day, when you were more likely to get a drunken, half-assed show..

Glad to hear that the original 2 can carry the show. I caught them in New Orleans in 1987? and it was a shite show. stumbling drunk, belligerent assholes - I was so pissed. I think they were wearing fishnet stockings.
Saw them in NJ in '86 and they killed. They did a cover of Fox on the Run that surprisingly rocked. Wish I could find a bootleg of that show.

The last date I see advertised is June 2 in London. Wish like hell I could make that one...

ETA: I think this is the first time I used the term "bootleg" in reference to music in 15 yrs!

Me and a buddy made it out to Denver last month to catch them. We never could forgive ourselves for missing Paul Westerberg in New Orleans in 2005. One off the bucket list, ya know?

Great show and worth the trip without a doubt.

Saw them in tour opener here in Seattle. Still sloppy, loud and brilliant. Wife wondered why their instruments were often out of tune. LOL.

I saw them in 83 or 4 at the Univ. of Houston. ....or I sort of saw them. They were so fricked up they got through 2 songs maybe and bailed. Talked about a pissed off crowd.

I've tried to get into them...just can't. Someone on this board got me hooked on Guided by Voices, but same dude said I'd like the Replacements...

Other than the poppish "Merry Go Round", I have not liked any of their other songs. I see the appeal...just not enough for me.

Gotta listen to "Let It Be" and "Tim". If you like the DIY, garage pop of Robert Pollard and GBV, I'd be very surprised that you did not dig the 'Mats.

This is, IMO, a basic Replacements starter kit...
Left of the Dial
Can't Hardly Wait
Alex Chilton
The Ledge
Kiss Me on the Bus
Unsatisfied
Color Me Impressed
I Will Dare
Hold My Life
Favorite Thing

Google that 'Fox On The Run' cover, it's on the net, I have it on a bootlegs disc I burned ages ago.

Check out Foshay Tower/Replacements and also Westerberg's site message board,etc..plenty of free rarities and bootlegs.

All the sh!t shows made for a great apology song.. Portland

Can't make a Mats GH album without also 'Within Your Reach' 'Skyway' etc..

Yeah, I think Bastards of Young is the definitive 'Mats song. Though, for us hardcore screwups, something like Take Me to the Hospital or Treatment Bound truly captures the band. Or, ya know, frick School.

Haven't seen the reunion tour. I just can't bear to see them as a professional outfit cranking out the hits. I'm happy for them and wish them all the money and success... but they are always going to be our loveable losers committed to self-sabotage. I'm keeping that memory of them for my own sake.

Not gonna lie, I prefer the cleaner, more Westerberg influenced later stuff.

Me too! There's no shame in that. kids don't follow was pretty good, but that other stuff on "stink" and "sorry ma" is a little to Black Flag for me...

Thanks! Fox on the Run was one of my favorite songs in elementary school - when the mats played it, I almost wet my pants...almost...
