And finally, which of these venues are more Caucasian and young adult focused? Because I'm getting a huge Black and blues vibe from the Henry Turner Open Mic. Phil Brady's is already out since I've long since learned it's a blues focused open mic.

Not sure about the others. Any place near LSU probably wouldn't be the best as that's a HUGE campus, and I've heard that a lot of Blacks go there too.

I'm not racist, this is more of a cultural thing. I want to make sure I'm reaching those guys in their late 20s and early 30s who play good quality pop and some good older rock music. Those who don't follow the typical blues and jazz obsession common in Louisiana, and those who don't play music that everybody requests to hear all the time.

I'm looking for those who march to the beat of their own drum. And who don't let anyone tell them any differently.

Never heard of, and it's probably way too far away, and probably trashy.

I don't trust anyone's suggestion here. I might trust them more if I were actually loving friends with the person, and he recommended these out of love and consideration, rather than talking as complete strangers.

That doesn't seem right. You'd think most places would actually provide a piano on stage, especially if it's an open mic. How are actual piano players supposed to share their creations at open mics when they don't provide a piano? Why don't they provide a piano? Most schools and churches, and even college campus's provide a piano for that very purpose.

Bring a keyboard and a stand. Sometimes, they'll have one at a blues jam just because one of the guys hosting that night brought one, but none of these venues own one that they leave on stage or anything. Pianos are big, heavy, and expensive.

If it's "a cultural thing" why are you afraid of blacks on LSU's campus? First, blacks only make up a small percentage of the student population, but why does that matter? LSU is where most of the musicians go to school. LSU also does an open mic night in the Union once a month (though not during the summer months). It's usually on a Thursday at like 6:30 in the evening.

Henry Turner is mostly black, probably 60/40 blacks to whites, but it's always welcoming, and there's usually free food. Phil Brady's is about 70/30 white to black, but mostly older people in their 50's and up.

All the other places may as well be a ski resort because they're about as white as it gets. Bee Nice, Dyson House, and Brew-ha-ha, and Beauvior Park are mostly middle aged people but there's a few young singer/songwriters mixed in as well.

The Parlor, Atomic Pop Shop, and Baton Rouge Music Studio are all very young, usually everyone there is between 16 and 30.

Cool. I'll do that. I was just checking. It helps if a venue can provide a piano.

Well, which of those places don't attract kids and teens? I want to go somewhere where I'm ONLY mingling with young adults. I called Brew Ha Ha one time, and learned that they allow kids and teens to play there.

And also which ones attract mostly young adult GUYS. I don't want to go to a venue, expecting to meet more guys, and then discover that it's mostly women performing, and mingling.

Also on a completely unrelated note, so that there's time to mingle, which of these venues have a place that allows me to chat with the other participants of the open mic night or whatever? This is important just in case I come across someone who has some of the traits I'm looking for, and therefore can talk to him. I hate going to open mics where people play and then leave.

Not an option. You either get young people mixed with teens or you get old people. There's nowhere that just has young adults except for the Spanish Moon, and they don't do open mics or anything like that. That's a real music venue with touring acts of all genres coming through there. If you want to meet up with synth enthusiasts, that's a place to do so. They have nights sometimes with nothing but synth acts, and you have to be 18 to get in.

This is never going to be a problem in Baton Rouge. The vast majority of music performers, no matter where you go, are always going to be guys. I don't know exactly why that is, but it is the norm.

Will you STOP being so forceful, and recommending things that you know are out of my league?

And will you STOP reccommending things that are strictly part of the BR music scene, and reccommend things that are aimed more at young adult keyboard and guitar players like msyelf, but who play at a NON-BUSINESS based open mic or something?

I can't go to ANY of those places you suggested. They are too far out of the way for my parents to take me.

Yes, he's a gay, racist, alter, troll. However, lurkers are actually getting a fair amount of good information on the Baton Rouge music scene.

No, because what you want DOES NOT EXIST! The music scene is simply all of the people who make original music and who communicate with one-another. It's not some shadowy, professional cabal. It's a community of people who care about music and support each other. There is no private piano/synth club. If you want one so much, invent one, and pitch it by networking with people at those other places. That's why I'm telling you what DOES exist. So you can know where to go to meet the kinds of people you want to collaborate with. I am giving you all of the options to get up on a stage and have your music played in front of other people, because that's the only way to meet people who want to make music with you.

You figured out one of my "secrets". Yes, I'm gay. That's part of the reason why I want to go to venues that are young adult guys only.

But keep in mind that I'm the classy guy who let's a relationship develop based on friendship first, THEN romance, then sex.

What I'm looking for probably DOES exist. You just haven't frequented the right areas. You probably don't live in my area of Baton Rouge so you can get an idea of what's around me. I don't know if any venues exist closer to where I live.

Everybody's giving out suggestions that are all the way on Government Street, or in Down-Town Baton Rouge, or on Burbank, and near LSU! I CANNOT go to those places regularly and frequently. It would probably be a one time place if I did go, and that would be it.

That's what I'm trying to do, but it would be nice if I could talk to someone around my age who shares similar music tastes and is also looking for a friend who would be glad to take me.

I'm tired of getting recommending to these places by people who hate the kind of music I enjoy, and who have way too much experience playing in bands, and such.

I'm also tired of getting recommendations from people who focus just on music venues and such. What about places where I can play some Wii, Wii U and Switch games, and such?

Dude, you live in the Southeast part of the parish. There's nothing music related out there. The one sort of friendly original music place that was within 10 miles of there was washed away by the flood last August, and it was in Prarieville. I know your neighborhood, as an old band I was in practiced not far from there. There's no venues, no clubs, and the only music store nearby is The Perfect Guitar/Perfect Bass.

I know the music scene in this town pretty well, so I highly doubt there are many venues or clubs hiding under the radar that I don't know about. It's a pretty tight-knit group.

Rocket's Hideout wouldn't be far from you, on the corner of Jones Creek and Tiger Bend.

Play n Trade in Prarieville across from the Wal-Mart wouldn't be too far either. Good people at those places.

And why do all these music scene areas in Baton Rouge have to be places that aren't well-known chains, and instead are these little one off and miscellaneous businesses?

Why can't places like Olive Garden, Las Palmas, TJ Ribs or other familar restaurants host an open mic?

Why doesn't Zeagler host anything like Weekend Warrior's, or Guitar Center? And why don't places like Starbucks or CC's host open mics. I'd be ALL over those places then.
