What would be the real stretch is to label the Allman's music as "jazz" or "progressive". Quintessential "southern rock" is the safe bet for sure.

In the 60s and with their original lineup, they definitely had jazz influences. They admit that much.

Southern rock wasn't a term when they got going. Suits in Nashville and New York created that little gem to sell CD sets on infomercials.
