He had a heart attack while on tour in Madrid. Great ambassador for Louisiana and a fantastic musician. May he RIP

What a loss. My all-time favorite Louisiana musician.

In addition to his work as a performer and songwriter - Toussaint also produced the seminal New Orleans funk album, Dr. John's 1973 In the Right Place (backed by The Meters). Toussaint also played some piano and keyboard tracks on the album.
Another one of those weird things is that Toussaint's mother's name was Naomi Neville (and he used his parents' names as pseudonyms) - although apparently not related to the famous New Orleans musical Neville family.

Not only a true musical genius, but just a humble and generous man. Went to the Blues & BBQ Fest a few weeks ago, and saw him standing by himself. My wife and I walked up to him to thank him for his set that night (he played with the Funky Meters) and for all that he had done for NO. The man genuinely looked amazed and told us that we had no idea what that meant to him. Will be truly missed.
