You can't go wrong just listening to Aquemini from the beginning. If you don't like Aquemini, you're probably never going to like Outkast.

anything dubstep, angsty pseudo-folk rock (Avett, Mumford etc), and anything 'prog'
I can agree with this.

for REM, REM has not aged all that well. I was really into REM during the 80s. I loved murmur, fables of the reconstruction, life rich pagent, and document.
But I relistened to fables of the reconstruction and I just did not enjoy it all. usually when i put on the old tunes, I really jam out but this was not the case for REM.
Now the smiths, they blew my mind on relisten. Johnny Marr is an incredible guitar player.

Let me try and help...
U2 - The Wire
U2 - Bullet the Blue Sky[/link
U2 - Spanish Eyes
Give these three songs a honest listening to and see if it persuades you differently.

Bon Jovi
I agree with this band being listed.....except for the Young Guns 2 soundtrack. Their music and Emilo's William H. Bonnie went together perfectly. Haha

Snatchy, I'm with you on all of those except REM. I think they were one of the few bright spots in the musical wasteland that was the 80's. Admittedly their earlier stuff was a bit better but I felt like they were relevant even into the 90's.

I admit that I haven't given their early stuff much of a chance. Tomorrow is lawn/REM/Golf day.
