Blade Runner

I have watched it more than once...just can't get into it. The strange thing is SciFi movies especially about the future is probably my favorite genre.

The only reason to watch "There Will Be Blood" is the beating scene where Paul Dano beats the hell out of DDL's character and DDL's character just takes it to get the mineral rights

I can’t get into Blade Runner or The new sequel either. They’re well made and all. I just can’t get engaged.

Citizen Kane obviously is revered because of how it changed cinema.

Agreed.. Only seen it once but and I actually didn't think it was that great of a story....but the technical achievements and Welles genius are what make it legendary.

2001 is kind if the same way, but I find Kubrick and his camera work and just so fricking incredible that I connect way more to it.

When I was 20, I was still a fan of his, hell I even bought Dr. Strangelove on DVD when I was a teenager... But 2001 I hated for tbe longest time.

I felt it was self-indulgent, "cinefile" horseshite....but oh did I learn it was anything but.

Armageddon is objectively shite. It had one of the worst scenes in cinematic history: Animal Cracker Scene.

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of the movie is entertaining and it’s in guilty pleasure territory, but it’s schlock. Only idiots think it’s objectively good.

Everything is context and timing.

My Dad loved Dr. Strangelove...(As did I later) but he grew up in the thick of the cold war.

What is funny is Dr. Strangelove was being filmed at the same time as Fail-Safe...one black-comedy, one serious.

Both movies are based on the novel.

Now Fail-Safe is somehat forgotten but everyone knows Dr. Strangelove.

Gone With the Wind

Unquestionably a classic. A well made film at the height of the studio system of the day. The performances were mostly fantastic. It’s an epic film made by people who knew how to make epic films. The problem with it is, I dislike every single character in the movie. There is absolutely no character I feel is relatable or that I want to root for. I’ve given it several shots and it just doesn’t work for me,

As a native and life long Kansan let me second this nomination. Here's a tip if anyone here who is not from Kansas ever meets me and thinks making a cutesy Wizard of Oz reference such as "You're not in Kansas anymore" or "Say hello to Dorothy and Toto for me" is a good way to break the ice, don't. I have heard every damn one at least thousand times everywhere I have ever gone outside the state of Kansas. So has every other Kansan who has been alive since this God damn movie has been released.

To the Georgians reading this, imagine every time you asked someone a question when you are outside of Georgia you get a quote from Gone With the Wind as an answer. Now take that to about the power of a zillion and you have Kansans experience with The Wizard of Oz. I counter this now by reminding anyone that does this that In Cold Blood was also set in Kansas and it is an actual true story.

These are my exact same feelings towards A Streetcar Named Desire and Sex, Lies, and Videotape.
