Can the XFiles nerds remind us how the show ended.

I know the last movie had zilch to do with the alien mythology, but if Fox wouldn't mind, how about giving us casual fans a remedial course on what happened with the whole alien plot.

I know for a short time we had some scrub replacement players and I have no clue what happened to them. Hopefully this guy got them.

Or is he dead?

I guess I don't want him getting her, but the other late season additions were BORING.

So Please remind us where we left off.

Just remember, if you've had a real bad day, a nice rewatch of HOME will bring you into the right frame of mind.

I just finished the series myself. The show ended with the death of the smoking man and Mulder and Skully in bed together talking. A few years ago they released a pretty bad movie that and I can't remember how it ended. Essentially Mulder is still on the hunt for proof of extraterrestrial life and FBI cover ups. Thats really all you need to know. In the new trailers it looks like Mulder and Skully are not together. I can't remember if they were at the end of the movie.

The movie was just a serial killer of the week story. Pretty brutal. I seem to recall the killer had a nice Frankenstein lab going on.

I didn't think it was a bad movie. Just seems people were pissed it didn't have anything to do with the alien mythology.

Also, it was pretty damn dark. It was closer to HOME than the average monster of the week.

I wasn't worried about it not being about aliens. I just remember the execution being horrible. I remember the dialogue and script being shite. I also remember some former child molesting priest in the movie. I don't know if they needed all of that

The subject matter was kind of interesting, though. I remember it being about harvesting organs.

It was just poorly executed, IMO.

ETA: I am however exited as hell for the show to come back on.

I seem to recall it was a modern day Frankenstein type tale.

I didn't think so. I also didn't mind the script or dialog.

It certainly felt more like a 2 hour TV show but that is because they went small and after the long layoff, people were expecting big.

I still think buried in you subconscious, you too wanted aliens and were disappointed.

I saw no difference from the movie and the average tv episode albeit far more violent than tv. Think the guy was beheading people.

I see that they're all on Netflix. Are they all HD, do they hold up well?

For some reason the last couple of seasons are not in HD. The rest are and they look great. I enjoyed the show. I enjoyed the funny episodes more than anything. The vampire episode with Luke Wilson is the best one, IMO. The best part about the show was the chemistry between Mulder and Skully. I didn't mind the out dated effects or anything. I also thought the show would drop off without Mulder (he leaves but makes brief appearances in the last couple of seasons) , and it did, just not as much as I thought it would.

All in all I enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the goofy Men In Black episode.

I watched the whole series over along with Millennium about 7 years ago. Most stories still hold up.

It takes a bit of patience when marathoning the show because you want to grab Scully and strangle her constant skepticism when she is eye witness to so many events.

Where the heck are the X-Files guys. I want some details. I don't want to watch the whole series over again.

I mean, what do you want to know? The main plot line throughout the series was that people in the FBI were working with an alien race to breed a race of alien hybrids to be slaves on the earth. The aliens faced a rebel force of other aliens that did not want this to happen for some reason. The rebels won and killed most of the FBI people who were assisting the aliens. The Smoking man got away. Then more aliens tried to impregnate humans because, I'm not sure why. Skully got pregnant, which they thought was an alien. Mulder got abducted and returned. Skullys baby turned out to be normal looking, but was actually a super soldier or something. She gave it up to be taken care of by someone else to protect it from an alien cult. The Smoking Man is located and is killed by a barrage of missiles. Mulder and Skully end the series in bed together. Then the latest movie comes in.

I doubt they start the new part of the series with how the last one ended. It was all over the damn place.

The new season is only 6 or 8 episodes correct? Are there talks or plans to extend it past that?

I don't know about this season. I've heard that David D wants more in the future. It all depends on how successful it is. The last movie that came out was a complete bomb. They may have been hesitant to release a full season because of that, but I think the buzz is pretty big right now and I think we get much more in the future.

The premiere episode will be screened at New York Comic Con on October 10, 2015.

In March 2015, it was claimed by several sources that the network would order a short-run season of less than ten episodes, with an initial guess of six. The decision to cut the order down to only a few installments was reportedly done so that the network could work around the busy schedules of Duchovny and Anderson; Duchovny himself said he had no interest in doing a full season because: "We're all old, we don't have the energy for a full season.

We get it. You didn't like it.

But

It cost 30 mil to make and made 68 so adding in dvd and other revenue streams and it wasn't remotely a bomb in any shape or form.

He wants more in the future. Not necessarily in a season. He says here that he would love to do more.

“I would be open to doing another cycle. I don’t know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don’t know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn’t bring it back with the idea of ending it.”

I get it. You're offended that I didn't like it.

When I say "bomb", I mean it was a bomb in the sense that they dropped a lot of future ideas they had to make more. David D was wanting to make more movies after that one. It's kind of like Superman Returns made money, but not enough per say. So I guess saying "a complete bomb" is wrong in a sense because it did make money.

They shot themselves in the foot with the title.

I Want To Believe

That clearly makes it appear it will be part of the alien plot so I still think that instantly burned a lot of people when reviews pointed out it had NOTHING to do with aliens and was just a serial killer of the week.

Yep. It would have been a decent TV movie or something. But theater releases have to bring the goods for the masses to enjoy it. The X-Files is at home on TV. I really love the idea of Fox doing this as a 8-12 part series a year in the future. David D said it's basically like a mini-series. Perfect for what they want to do.
