Going by Nielsen Ratings, the 78-79 season was the highest ever and by a wide margin. Then a major drop for the few seasons, then a modest rise (with a few dips) around the 84 through 94 seasons. Then a second major drop in the 95-96 season. Followed again by modest rise until 99-2000 season. Then a steady decline, with a very few minor rises, till this past season.

SNL has been on a steady decline for years.

Yeah I couldn't even hear the intros by Darrell Hammond. I'll give them a pass on week 1 but I'm glad it's no longer taking up an hour of my Sunday.

I had trouble understanding the intros also. I wasn't sure if it was me, my TV or Hammond.

The new weekend update guy is a SNL writer and also was one of the Daily Show's correspondents. I guess Lorne Michaels figured since he kind of did the news on Jon Stewart's show, he would be a natural on Weekend Update.

Hopefully he and the rest of the cast will settle in and turn things around.

I had no idea it was Hammond that replaced Pardo.
That makes me even more sad.

Yeah, I'm going to chalk it up to first show jitters, but it did have me thinking. Maybe Comedy Central is sucking up a lot of talent. Their giving shows out like crazy to some of the best in comedy, and they all have writers. Until recently I'm sure a lot of those people aspired to get their big break on SNL.

at this point, SNL should just keep the minorities, the lesbian and raid CollegeHumor's cast and call it a day.
