Would anyone here be interested in seeing a Sopranos prequel?

David Chase indicated he is in no way interested in doing a reboot of the Sopranos but could conceive of doing a prequel which would involve a totally new cast.

No. Not at all.
Besides, I’m pretty sure we learned all the backstory we needed in the series.

Yeah, they showed so much of Johnny Boy and Junior in the old days. And it's a topic that's just been beat to death. It would take a really exceptional cast to make this idea interesting to me.

Not really. A period piece from the 1950s or 1960s would be good - we know enough now to present a "factual enough" story in the mob world. I mean, for all practical purposes, the Sopranos was Goodfellas, if it had been a family situational dramedy - which sounds iffy in theory, but was executed extraordinarily well.
The Deuce on HBO is hitting around the fringes of this (even has Michael Rispoli as a fictional Gambino Capo) for the 1970s. I'm thinking a series that focuses on the Capos and Soldiers of a family - say pre-Apalachin - might make an interesting 5 season show.

Iirc the sopranos provided the backstory of uncle junior and Tony’s Dad as up and comers, and highlighted Tony’s childhood up until his college days.
The only time period which i’d be interested is tony from college to mid 30s. Unfortunately, James gandolfini is tony soprano, and even if he was alive, he’d be too old for the role. Nobody else can play tony. So I wouldn’t be interested.

This is why I was surprised Chase even floated the possibility that he would be open to the idea to a prequel.

Junior was an absolute bore

an HBO series on the New Orleans mafia from late 40s/early 50s to 60s would be $$

Meh - what New Orleans show has really taken off, other than NCIS (which is riding on the shoulders of the beast of an original)?
Besides, Uncle Carlos kept things relatively calm in New Orleans, compared to all the crazy shite that happened in NYC.

Eh, between deportation to Guatemala and the JFK stuff there is plenty of verified stuff to be able to use. Not to mention that there is probably a shite ton of good stuff that isn't well known because guys getting whacked/disappearing in NOLA probably didn't make 1st page news like in New York.

So, you want a story about Carlos? Good luck getting cooperation on that, but I agree that might be intriguing enough - they would have to cast New Orleans people or the accents will be fricked up like a soup sandwich.

Sopranos was so damn good. It would be horrible if they tried to spin off in any way. I'm always in for a new mob series/movie though. It would be impossible to cast a group as well as Sopranos.
RIP Gandolfini/Tony

I pretty much agree - but I've always thought something with a storyline about Christopher and Adriana in witness protection would be good TV.

That would be technically challenging to pull off with those characters

I would love to see a sweaty Carlos Marcello eating spicy shrimp and grits under a slow moving ceiling fan.
Just imagine all the tense showdowns with a sweaty unshaven cop who pulls a flask out of his jacket and says, "This is MAH town, Carlos." Then Carlos would wink and say, "You sure 'bout dat Share?"
Gold.

I'm guessing you never finished the show?
