Fair enough. As of late I think films have done better with portrayals of the South.

White terrorists... When's the last time the terrorists were actually Muslims...True Lies?

Hell, even on TV commercials for alarm companies and such... bad guys are always white.

true detective, django, straw dogs (new one), waterboy, etc. makes the south look poor and full of rednecks and shite. it's laughably generalized

just like they always portray africa as decimated and filled with warlords

Throw True Blood in there also. I don't know if a show has ever missed on accents so badly for the area it's suppose to take place in.

So 1 white terrorist, compared to what, like 10,000,000 Muslim terrorists.

Same thing with female TV cops & coroners. How many good looking detectives have you seen. Not lower level patrol women like on the Memphis & Dallas lady cop reality shows, but cops that have advanced to the level of detective. Same with coroners. Would include DA's but those are sometimes elected & an attractive person usually does better in politics than ugly people in today's dumbed-down society.

True Detective gave an accurate portrayal of the south Louisiana during the mid 90's imo.

Django was a spaghetti western. So, I can't really get upset about some of the flamboyant portrayals other southerners in that film. Same thing can be said about Waterboy.

The worst portrayal of southerners I've seen is in "Trueblood".

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I hate it when characters can live in a 2k sqft apartment in Manhattan while working some crap job.

TD was based in areas that are pretty poor and redneck though. Especially in the 90's. I'm pretty sure the writer grew up in some of those areas. Not positive though.

He did. I thought TD did a great job of depicting south La during the 90s. Only thing that bothered me was the complete disregard for Burger Tyme restaurants. Those were all over Lafayette at the time.

the genius characters who also spend 12 hours a week doing cardio to keep their body fat at 4%.

the evil scientist characters of most sorts. present day science is usually portrayed as scary and dangerous

the beautiful cops or such who own more expensive wardrobes than women who marry the idle rich.

maybe the most annoying thing is the one punch knockout that never looks like a knockout (either in how it is delivered or how the victim lays on the ground afterwards)
