Will Tom Cruise ever do a real movie again?

Or is he just relegated to being "Tom Cruise" action star...Mission Impossible, Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, War of the Worlds...and coming soon to DVD in 10 years...Steven Segal-like flicks.
I mean, it's been over 25 years since "Born on the 4th of July" "Rain Man" "The Color of Money" "Far and Away"...
And its been over 20 years since Jerry Maguire.
Doesn't he want anything more than just a paycheck? He's never going to chase an Oscar like he came close 25 years ago with Born on the 4th of July?
What is his last real pure drama? Eyes Wide Shut?

What's wrong with being an action star?

Yeah he's got one where he portrays Barry Seals.

Check it out.

Oh c'mon.
Vanilla Sky?
How long ago was that?
Lets face it...he's been pretty vanilla for the last 10 years. Don't act like he's trying to be a thespian.
But the guy can act...
I would like to see another Born on 4th of July like movie with a great director before he retires and fades away to straight to DVD hair dye nonsense.
There was a brief period where he had a real shot to win an Oscar...and he just abandoned that for blockbusters...(makes sense, money is awesome) but is he typecast now?
Are these the only roles he can get? Collateral, Reacher, Immpossible, Oblivion, etc.
No family drama...
I loved August Osage County...not only was it a good movie, but famous actors checked their ego and brought it down to pure acting again...away from CGI and Hollywood.
Maybe Cruise never has had it in him like Julia Roberts.

Ha! Except he lacks the vagina as an option. So, she has that going for her as far as being different.

What makes you think this is gonna happen? He's still one of the biggest stars in the world. Who cares about family drama? Steven Seagal on his best day was never remotely close to Cruise at his worst in terms of popularity.

I honestly think he'll only be doing blockbuster popcorn flicks for the rest of his career.
The audience probably doesn't buy him in these drama's anymore, at least i don't or never really did. Except for a few good men and the last samari

I would just like to see him in another Born of the 4th of July...type movie...before he is done.
Collateral might be closest he's come in the last 10 years to pure acting, not just action rote.
It's a serious question. He's rarely tried to achieve actor status - Oscar worthy - since his early days.

Since Vanilla sky, I see he has done 15 real movies and has another 6 real movies scheduled to come out by 2017.
