Why is "Hook" looked at as a subpar film?

Obviously we all who grew up with it all think it's great, but there's still a large hatred for this film. I find it highly entertaining. Only thing I have a problem with is Hook's instant brainwash of Peter's son, but the rest of it is just great. This is still the best Hook ever put to film, Robin Williams is entirely enjoyable as Peter, I like the sets (even if they are obviously sets), and it's a lot of fun. It's by no means a masterpiece, but the movie is a ton of fun. Why is it specifically so hated?

Peter was a dick head to him and ignored him and his family. Hook actually made a point of going to his baseball game. He was already halfway there. Hook just had to nudge. I don't have a problem with it.
Anyway, I'm not in a position to look at this objectively.

I fricking love Hook.

Not to mention Dustin Hoffman was just awesome as Hook
I think too much of it was just childish in the eyes of many, ie a lot of the scenes with the Lost Boys

In peter pan lore, the kids who went to neverland quickly forgot how great parents are so I don't think the instant brainwashing for a kid with major daddy issues is too far-fetched.
But, iirc Spielberg thinks the movie is terrible as well because he failed to let the great actors carry the movie.

I was never a fan of that movie

Cause it sucked.
It is a pretty bad movie.
Hoffman was good, though.

I don't understand the hatred for it either. I have done my best to watch it from as objective a perspective as possible and I still don't get the intense hatred it got from critics. It's a flawed movie but a lot of it still holds up.
There are some WTF moments such as the out-of-left-field scene where Tinker Bell enlarges to life size proportions. But all in all it's a solid film. I give it a B+.

It's a god damn kids' movie. Surely that can't be what people don't like about it

That's one of the most realistic parts of the entire movie.
The kid is begging for a father figure and Hook gives him one after emasculating his real father.
Has Hook ever made a promise he didn't keep?

It's possibly my favorite movie of all time. It's easily in my top 3, as is princess bride.

Probably in the eyes of a substitute math teacher. Or a near sighted gynecologist.
