Why can’t Disney make an “UP”?

Watching UP with my son tonight. It’s been years since I’ve seen it myself, but damn the first act of Up is incredible. Absolutely tugs the heart strings. Why can’t Disney see that this is what consumers want. Is it really that hard to recognize?

Because Disney has completely lost its way and it gonna take near bankruptcy for a serious change to occur.

Because Grandpa was alleged to have been a Republican and his late wife was pro life. And that’s before we even get to the fact that there is no record of them supporting the LGBTQ community. All of that is problematic and would cause the audience to literally shake.
Kids today and their more evolved parents prefer programming that touches on more important themes like the need to teach lesbian dance therapy in k-6 and save the planet by abolishing fossil fuels and ensuring gender transition surgeries for kids are properly encouraged . You know, timeless themes that are age appropriate and that teach morals and ideals that make our culture more cohesive…

There have been a few solid Pixar movies since Up.
Toy Story 3, Brave, Inside Out, Coco. Then they fell off a cliff post 2018.
Luckily the co-writer/director of Coco, Adrian Molina has an original (non-prequel/sequel) movie that comes out in 2025.

Coco was pretty good, but you are right for the most part. What they want in a film no longer aligns with what audiences want. We’ll see how far they have to fall.

I can’t watch Up. And I say that as a huge compliment.
The first (and only) time I watched up, I was at my parents house with my daughter when she was very little. My wife had something for work and my daughter and I went and stayed at my folks for the night so we could go tag Christmas trees the next morning.
We didn’t have a lot of money at the time before we had kids, so she and I never really travelled or did anything just us. We had a lot of trouble conceiving, and that further limited things. We had talked for a long time about these grand plans for trips, vacations, etc but never really had a path forward to do so. Make matters worse, we wanted to have another baby but knew that would likely mean fertility treatments for which we knew we couldn’t afford.
That first act wrecked me. I mean wrecked me. We literally had a “Second Honeymoon” jar sitting on our dresser that wasn’t getting filled very quickly. I had to leave the room several times to make it thru. The movie was delightful and the entire second half was typical Pixar magic (at the time).
It’s so disappointing to see what’s come of Disney. There was a time when they could tell stories that worked on so many levels for kids and parents alike that were magical and meaningful. Now, that’s gone. I seriously doubt I’ll ever see those types of movies again

Still awhile ago. Not sure what Raya and the Last Dragon is. But the others arent from this same era of bullshite we currently live in.

Encanto is the exception that proves the rule. Makes it pretty clear Disney knows what audiences want, but still aren't doing it.

Encanto was in 2021. The rest of the good ones (sans Raya) were released in 2016 or earlier.
That is before the current Disney insanity.

Dan Carlin on an episode of his history podcast was talking about the German army in WW2 and IIRC was comparing it to the German army from WW1 after being asked which one was "better". The one in WW2 had more resources and a better technology advantage, but he took the WW1 army because the WW2 version had worse leadership. This was because unlike in the meritocracy of the German military in WW1, your adherence to a certain ideology is what got you promoted in the WW2 German army.
Disney has all the resources in the world available, but your adherence to the prescribed ideology is what gets you promoted there. Decline was inevitable.
