It seems people are making a big deal out of something quite minuscule.

Disagree. We already had an understanding that was both simple AND poetic given to us in under 20 seconds by Obi Wan in Star Wars.

LINK

It wasn't simply a way to quantify it, it literally changed the definition. If at any point Lucas thought The Force was this shite back in 1976, he'd have had Obi Wan tell Luke exactly that when he explained what it was.

He pulled this completely out of his arse, and it was insulting to the original explanation that all of us who saw and enjoyed the originals had bought.

"only 2 Sith" rule was made up in Ep. 1.

It also doesn't make much sense when you think that "the chosen one" was supposed to balance the force. How powerful would the two Sith have to be to have unbalanced the force against the hundreds to thousands of Jedi?

Explaining the Force with bacteria wasnt worst thing about the movies, but it wasnt good. Makes the Jedi seem like mutants.

The audience (us) werent clamoring for an explanation of the Force. It'd been 30+ years since the first movie released and the world was fine not understanding the Force

midichlorians were not mentioned again after Ep. 1.

Weren't they kind of mentioned again as the means to the immaculate conception?

Yes Maul was a badass and should have been in episode two as well.

The only issue I could see is where did all of these Dark Jedi go after Ep. 3? I guess the war could've left only Yoda, Obi Wan, Anakin, and Palpatine alive, but that's the same self serving stuff that made the prequels horrible to begin with.

Meh - could have left it to the imagination - they could have warred with each other, vying for Palpatine's attention until Vader cracked down. Perhaps the very crackdown by the Emperor reduced the number of force sensitive people (again, dispensing with the midiclorians) - the point is that Vader was supposed to be the Jedi 'Holocaust' - instead, he is a babykilling afterthought, not even a dynamic or charismatic one - (as in ANH, ESB, and ROTJ).

Heh, you're right, they were. Their mention in Ep. 3 actually made their presence in the prequels even worse.

Dialog was the problem not the acting. The writing was god awful for Anakin.

this ... the writing was god awful for just about everybody ...

I agree that there relationship was poorly directed, I did not think it was poorly written as much as one of the actors really sucked and you could never get a decent read on what was really happening with him. Anakins view of the world was always going to be his downfall.

I actually heard a few weeks ago on a podcast that Misha Collins from Supernatural was one of the final choices for the role.

But then....... Hayden Christensen would have played Castiel.
