Ungoliant???
Humongous spider from the Simirellion(sp). Even Melkor, Sauron's boss, was scared of her. So hungry she ended up eating herself

It???
Sure, a spider is only its truest physical form but nonetheless, we are left with a creature from the Macroversewho has the terrifying ability to drive someone insane for eternity

Shelob???
Certainly the most famous great spider. Daughter of ungoliant and annoyer of Sam and Frodo.

itsy bitsy spider

Life kicked the shite out of ole itsy bitsy. But he got up, didn't pout and put his life back together. We should all aspire to be more like the itsy bitsy spider.

I'm glad you stated you were interested in "fictional". The discussion would have been pure chaos without that restriction.

Shelob was in LOTR.

Ungoliant was the mother of Shelob, much larger and more powerful and feared. As to her fate, nobody knows:

quote:

Of the fate of Ungoliant no tale tells. Yet some have said that she ended long ago, when in her uttermost famine she devoured herself at last.

Shelob was in LotR.

Ungoliant was in The Silmarillion and to my knowledge has not appeared on screen.

I'm surprised they didn't throw her in The Hobbit trilogy with all the other shite that wasn't supposed to be there.

I'd be ok with a one off using a story from the Silmarillion.

Or do The Children of Hurin. Ungoliant wasn't in it, but we don't know 100% what her fate is.
