That's one way of thinking about it. I'm really thinking "biggest star" as in most popular right now, not necessarily best actor. And I also think Chris Pratt could open any movie in the next 3-6 months and it would be the #1 movie in America

I know the name, but without looking it up on IMDB I'm not sure I could name anything he's been in. Not kidding.

Pump your breaks dude.

You think he could remake the room and it would be the #1 movie in america?

JLaw, MM, Leo, Tom Hardy, Hemsworth, Cumberpatch, Anna Kendrick would be the candidates.

Is RDJ still in contention for this? Depp? Henry Cavill?

The Room is infamous enough that I think this could happen if it came out during the right weekend. With the right marketing though.

I looked him up. Had no interest in Guardians of the Galaxy. Although I liked it I haven't watched Parks and Recreation in years. Didn't remember him. And why in God's name would I have seen the Lego Movie?

The guy seems to be doing okay, but he's nowhere near the biggest movie star. Let him do a couple of more things, and be in something halfway serious along the way.

I don't know who any of these people are even though it's possible I've seen some of the movies they are in. I'd have to look their names up on imdb to be sure.

Because it is original, perfectly executed, emotional, funny and better than almost all of the derivative sequel crap put out by Hollywood these days.

Clearly it is still Eugene Levy.

Uh, it's not who has been in hot movies in the last 30 minutes. It's who can get a meeting with anyone, "open" a movie almost every time, be approached for a variety of roles AND virtually guarantee a solid two week gross.

Then it's no one. Movies don't rely on superstars now like they did in the 80s and 90s. Stars flop much more frequently now.

I'd say this is the closest thing to the truth in this thread.

Have an upvote.

That's true.

That's sort of true, but stars are still important. Ask the money people in Hollywood.

It takes the HOT star to get the money but I don't think the HOT star is nearly the draw they used to be.

The internet changed our way of going to the theater not to mention the ticket price. We aren't willing to risk a crappy flick like we used to and the internet gives plenty of warning which clunkers to avoid.

Sure, they're important, but they're a much smaller part of the equation now. Movies used to succeed less because of content and more because they starred a Tom Cruise or Arnold Schwarzenegger. Today that trend has reversed.

If GotG had been made in 1985, you can bet a relative unknown like Chris Pratt wouldn't have been the star. Also, the idea of movies being vehicles for actors is going away. Movie stars aren't manufactured today like they used to be or like they still are in other areas of the entertainment industry. There are some, like a Zac Efron, who are manufactured, but those guys aren't nearly as prevalent as they once were.

Yeah, I should definitely have listed Marky Mark (the "other" MM - ).

Mark Wahlberg has way too many flops to be in the discussion.

DiCaprio is probably the best ROI based on name alone.

It could be Leo, but it's RDJ. For the third time I've said it.

yep ... he could still do the big budget flick, and has carved out a solid, very respectable niche in dramatic roles, both the hyped and the indie style ...
