The British Academy of Film and Television Awards were last night. A lot of these voters also have at vote at the Oscars, so their picks for the best of 2019 might line up very well with those the Oscars pick next Sunday. Here are the winners:
Best Motion Picture - 1917
Best British Film - 1917
Best Director - Sam Mendes, 1917
Best Actor in a Leading Role - Joaquin Phoenix, Joker
Best Actress in a Leading Role - Renee Zellweger, Judy
Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Laura Dern, Marriage Story
Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Best Adapted Screenplay - Jojo Rabbit
Best Original Screenplay - Parasite
Best Animated Film - Klaus
Best Film Not in the English Language - Parasite
Hollywood Reporter
Overall, 1917 was the big winner on the night with 7 BAFTA wins. Joker was the runner-up with 3 BAFTA wins. It's looking more and more like 1917 is going to win the Oscar for Best Picture on Sunday night.

Why do they still do best actor/best actress? Seems very behind the times to label someone by their gender

Judging by your emoticon, you are displeased. Who do you think should have won over Phoenix?

In a ceremony with few surprises, I really loved that this happened:
Ian McKellen Presents Andy Serkis with Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema
Or...
(If you don't want to watch McKellen's four minute introduction.)

Yanks sweep the acting awards. Impressive.

Brad Pitt had Margo Robbie accept for him. His speech said that he was naming his award "Harry" and that he was excited about bringing it back to the States with him.
Prince William was sitting in the front row.

They had Roma, Three Billboards, La La Land, Revenant and Boyhood the last 5 years as Best Picture.
Seems like their winners usually don't line up very well with the Oscars.

Don't necessarily disagree with him winning, but it's disappointing that his performance is the best of the year.

I thought 1917 and Joker were both very good.
IMO Joker was a little better, but I can't get mad at either winning.
