I'm having a moratorium on comic book films not named Deadpool or Avengers for the foreseeable future, but I didn't have a particular problem with it.
Of course, Apocalypse is a little after my time of comic book reading - which makes a big difference for some of these things.
I'd rather a world-class effort at making 3D, real world practical/technical effects than to just CGI everything, making every single product, effectively, animation.

yeah that's the problem with Apocalypse
you either get a CGI creation that's obviously CGI or a practical effect that looks goofy

The design aesthetic from First Class has completely vanished, and it's adopted the tacky and overly colorful veneer from X-Men 3.

I'm going see this movie just for Psylocke. One of my favorite characters. Psychic ninja babe.
Plus, I like her more recent rendition in X-force where she is basically "broken" and addicted to killing. She counts the days since she has killed someone like someone in AA counts the days since their last drink.

Not optimistic. Seems like a bad video game. Hope I'm wrong but I haven't liked the trailers.
