I'm sure this has been discussed before but I've been watching them all and I was curious of the M/TV board's opinions. I love Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. I watched Castle in the Sky last night and I didn't really care for it. Probably because it didn't have the spiritual elements that I like

Ponyo. No doubt about it.

there is definitely something captivating about it that I can't quite put my finger on. Like it's nostalgic but I didn't even watch it as a kid
And no I'm not high

Spirited Away is one of the greatest animated films of all time.

So yeah, that.

Hmmm...tough question.

If I were to rank them:

1a. Nausicaa
1b. Howl's Moving Castle
1c. Princess Mononoke
1d. Spirited Away

Those are pretty interchangable as my favorite.

I think Howl's has the best score but Nausicaa has the best story.

I've never seen one. Would be interested in checking one out though.

Probablt best to start with either Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, or Princess Mononoke.

Then just work your way through the others.

Nausicaa
Kiki's Delivery Service
Castle in the Sky
Ponyo
And all the others.

I'd recommend you watch Nausicaa before Princess Mononoke. Personally I look at Nausicca as an inferior form of PM. I watched Mononoke first, and the movie blew my face off. Nasicaa I don't think has as strong of characters, the bugs just aren't as good as the animals in PM, and it really holds nothing back. I really like Nausicaa, but I think Princess Mononoke more or less tells the same story better than its predecessor. I think you'd appreciate Nausicaa more if you watched it earlier than you would if you waited until after watching PM.

And PM is clearly my favorite Miyazaki film, with Spirited Away being right behind it.

1. Princess Mononoke
2. Spirited Away
3. Howl's Moving Castle
4. My Neighbor Totoro
5. Ponyo
6. The Secret World of Arrietty
7. Porco Rosso

I still need to see the rest.

I need to buy it. With his movies, I just default to buying it to watch. My daughter loves them, too, so I have a good excuse.

Tie between Howl's Moving Castle and Kiki's Delivery Service. Christian Bale was amazing as the voice of Howl I have to say, considering I didn't realize it was him till years later (never really paid attention to credits and whatnot)

Bale's batman voice was a little much for me.
However, I loved Billy Crystal's Calsiphur.

I haven't seen one that I don't care for, but these two are probably on top of my list. You'll always seem to find cats and something flying in all of his films

I agree with this. The stories are really similar but PM is more impressive visually and it has more supernatural elements like spirited away.
The crazy thing is you can't really go wrong starting with any of his movies since he's never made a bad film

Your daughter will love Kiki's Delivery Service. It's really good.

I preordered his bluray collection that's coming out in November. Haven't seen his movies in years, so I can't wait
