Hoping the series gets another shot, preferably in a more interesting location than season 2,with more interesting characters. I loved season 1,except for the final 20 minutes of the final episode.

Put em inside the Dixie Mafia (ala Justified) or maybe Amish country (Banshee)?

Season 1 was must watch type of TV. Amazing season.

Season 2 sucked. Setting means a lot and the Cali thing was and is just overdone. I really found the locales in season 1 interesting.

HBO in advertising hbogo was pretty much admitting it was done. I can't recall the exact wording but there was a difference between current shows (Game of Thrones, Veep) and series that had ended (Deadwood, The Wire) and TD had the same wording as the shows that were over.

However, I have also heard that HBO doesn't consider it an active show but if Nic Pizzolata were to come to them they are open to doing more if they like the story.

They're waiting for both Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones to be available for filming to start.

Yeah, I think I remember seeing some sort of publication not long after the second season ended that pretty much said that they knew that the second season was a failure, and they were moving on. Seems like it was something about the creator being disappointed with it, and knew that he couldn't maintain quality. Can't remember too much right now.

Not that uncommon I'd think. How many authors or screen writers bomb the second thing they create? You have your entire life to come up with the story for season one even if you only really finish the small details on the hundredth draft and it's a hit and HBO wants season two in less than a year.

I read somewhere that Pizzolata would be less hands on with a season three and someone else might create it and his name just goes on it.

To be fair, the writing for the first season was pretty weak too. It's just that the direction, casting and acting was so much better in s1.

I hope they don't revisit it for at least a few more years. The first season was years in the making for Pizzolatto. Then he had to turn around and write the second season in a matter of months. I want to see him flesh something out and write it the way he wants to write it.

The last thing I remember was reading that they weren't putting it on the upcoming schedule since Pizzolatto didn't have any ideas and essentially, they didn't want him to rush.

From Wikipedia:
quote:

In July 2016, HBO head of programming Casey Bloys confirmed plans for a potential third season, stating, "It is not dead. I talked to Nic about it and both Nic and HBO are open to another season. I don't think Nic has a take and he's working on some other projects. We're open to somebody else writing it and Nic supervising it. It's a valuable franchise, it's not dead, we just don't have a take for a third season yet."

If it happens hopefully it comes out in like 4 years so the writers can develop it like season 1. Season 2 was a bust due to it being rushed.

The setting for season 2 was the biggest disappointment. Los Angeles is tired and dull as a setting.

In music, isn't this referred to as a bands/artists sophomore album? I ask cause I usually see that second album referred to /reviewed unfavorably. Point being, second efforts often disappoint.

The first season was based on actual events. He didn't have to pull the story from thin air. It wasn't as easy without a base for the story. Also, the director of season 1 was off shooting Beasts of No Nation.

The whole problem with Season 2 was rushing it to completion. The story line was not very good at all. It says a lot about the show when Colin Farrell's acting is one of the high points.

I think the story, dialogue and acting were way worse than the setting. Even the music, every episode with that awful brooding singer in the dive bar

Season 1 was amazing and they should have continued with same storyline... They went the AHS route and thought they could change it up and it failed. I don't think I got passed episode 3 or 4 in Season 2

They should either go back and continue Season 1 or pack it in.

I don't get why they rushed it. HBO knows better. They let LD take his time with Curb. And before anybody says, "well that's Larry David," they even let Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement do that after 1 season of Flight of the Conchords

The setting was fine. The story was fricking garbage. Half baked and just slapped together. I still liked the dark atmosphere and it had moments of really good performances by Farrell and Vaughn.

it was doomed as soon as they lost Cary Fukunaga as director..

whoever the new guy was just tried to fill an hour with ominous tones and overhead freeway pans
