The book
What is it about Children's books and making us all cry as kids?
Its like the schools want to teach us from Day 1, life isn't all recess and nap-times.
There was the Beverly Cleary books that were fun and upbeat but every other book that was read aloud in class was about death, loss and tragedy.

A book I remember so much of, absolutely heartbreaking. Him trying to put Old Dan's innards back in killed me. I cried everytime I read it. There was also a book named "A Dog Called Kitty", damn dog gets crushed to death at a construction site by falling pipes. Screw this thread.

Where the Red Fern Grows. I've owned hounds all of my life so it really, really hit home.

Is it odd that so many children's stories revolve around a cute animal (usually a dog) dying?
I suppose it's meant to teach us compassion and love for our 4 legged friends at a young age, but damn these children's stories about animals dying are so much sadder than anything about humans.

who could forget Boxer in George Orwell's Animal Farm? that isn't really a kids . but the part where Boxer gets sent to the glue factory has to make everyone choke up. Speaking of Animal Farm I heard Andy Serkis was working on a live remake of Animal Farm I always liked the live version Hallmark came out with in the 90s I find the original cartoon version boring
