Even Sam Jackson and Liam Neeson were shite.

Actors were not the problem with the prequels. You can't polish the terd that was the dioulogue.

No he still had shite dialogue like "I don't like sand". It would have only damaged him as an actor.

Leo made the right decision by going with Spielberg and Tom Hanks for Catch Me If You Can.

It wouldn't have destroyed his career but it wouldn't have helped those movies either.

Okay but IMO the better choice would be Raphael

I think Liam was pretty good, though his character really didn't belong in the long run. Jackson's use was pretty bad, except I think his confrontation with Palpatine was done pretty well, except for that cringe-worthy initial dialogue.

The role of whiny sand emo wouldn't have been much of a stretch for Leo. I think he can still play it today.

A couple of posters including myself have argued that an older and larger actor should have been the Anakin Skywalker starting point.

If the story began with an already physically imposing slave Skywalker - suffering from physical and emotional abuse - that would have set the table for the brilliant student too angry and too old to train properly. Obi Wan trying to save him but failing would have been an easy continuation of the story hinted at in the first three movies.

Who should have been the actor? Someone similar in size to the original Vader (playing an 17 or 18 year old Vader) would have made for a really interesting and appropriately scary character when he turned completely to the Emperor's cause. There are a limited number of hollywood actors of that size but I think someone like Joe Manganiello would have worked if his hair was very short.

After an embarrassingly long time of considering each of the Ninja Turtles, I agree, only Raphael had enough angst.

The problem really wasn't the actors. I think Hayden Christensen was fine for the role. In Revenge of the Sith, he actually had a believable look. But the problem was the material, the concept, the direction.

One of the issues that a lot of people don't get about Star Wars is that the movies aren't made for 50 year olds. They never were. There's a group of Star Wars fans who want to turn Star Wars into The Godfather or The Outlaw Josey Wales in terms of tone, and they forget that Star Wars has a (original) Flash Gordon-style tone... just taken to a whole new level of execution. So you're never going to get that movie out of Star Wars. The series has a formula that practically prints money, and they are going to stick with it. This includes merchandisable characters and equipment, plots that are comprehensible to children, and humor that plays to them.

The problem is that there's no reconciling the "formula" of Star Wars with Anakin's tale of tragedy. If you want to tell that story the right way, with a big, intimidating lead, and themes of pain, torture, slavery, loss, betrayal, and murder... can't you see where it's doomed to fail, given the formula?

You can't do "murder lite," or "slavery lite." And that's what they tried to do with the Prequels. It fails on the conceptual level. In one scene we're talking about freeing a child from slavery. In the next, an alien gets his tongue paralyzed in an engine. Think about it.

Actually, Attack of the Clones had finished filming for five months when they started shooting Catch Me If You Can. But I get your point. If Leo was in Star Wars, he wouldn't have been able to appear in Gangs of New York which had an enormous impact on his career. Scorsese later casted him in four more films and three of those films ended up being nominated for Best Picture and garnered Leo two Oscar nominations. If Leo was tied up with Star Wars, he wouldn't have been able to appear in Gangs of New York and The Aviator and Scorsese likely would have chosen another actor as his muse. It would have changed his career completely.

He would have made a huge difference but the CGI probably would have drowned him out.

Hayden Christensen just didn't have an evil streak in him.

Like HC, Leo was too pretty for the role.

Vin Diesel would have been my pick. It should have been a badass. Instead they went the backstreet boy route.
