I haven't watched in years but at 6:30, I saw Wheel of Fortune - 30 minutes, solved several puzzles, and gave out some money, emotion-free. The very next show on NBC was this newer one called "the wall" - 60 minutes, answered about a dozen multiple choice question, spent a solid 15 minutes of back story on the father-daughter, and showing them hugging and crying just talking about each other - granted neither of them had like cancer or anything - just crying over the emotions of a Dad raising a daughter (ya know, like every other Dad out there). Oh and add in another 5 minutes in awkward pauses trying to build suspense.

What a contrast.

Always loved Press Your Luck and $25,000 Pyramid.

Obviously Price is Right. Thought that would be a given.

Jeopardy is the only one I like. Hollywood Squares was fun back in the day.

I don't consider Jeopardy a game show. It's too prestigious to be lumped in with the likes of Deal or No Deal.

I remember when this was at the peak of it's popularity the number of people that were completely convinced that they had it figured out and would kill it if they ever got on. I didn't have the heart to explain to them that you're just guessing numbers at random - you don't have a secret system to win.

According to Wikipedia, they stopped doing this in 1989, so I don't know if I would call it a "steady" decline these 29 years later.

The working American woman killed game shows. After women started entering the workforce only lazy, less educated became the viewing audience and game shows faded and garbage daytime talk shows became more popular. Maury, Montell, Sally, Ricki, Jenny Jones, Jerry, Gordon Elliott...
