Watching the Wonder Years on the interweb

So, I've attempted to introduce my 19 year old brother-in-law to the greatness that is the Wonder Years. I was almost literally shocked that he had never even HEARD of it, mainly because he's a smart kid that is pretty well-versed and is into a lot of obscure (newer and older) TV shows and movies.

So I dug out all of my VHS tapes with all 112 episodes and showed him the pilot. Unfortunately, the quality of those tapes has radically diminished over the 15 years or so since I recorded them - to the point of unwatchability.

So, I'm against illegal streaming/downloads, but my bil is not. Any advice? Does this exist for The Wonder Years anywhere?

Is it on hulu?

I would fall into the camp of your BIL. It's streaming over the internet and not a crime to watch. It's different than downloading except that your buffer RAM does cache video ahead of time so you can smoothly watch it without interruption.

I doubt it. I'm under the impression that the whole thing is one big clusterfrick due to the music rights.

That was a great pilot for a TV show.

My dad loved that show.

i personally don't think that streaming this show is stealing in any way

it's not on tv (if it is, the syndication/# of shows isn't large) and it's definitely not for sale

i find it hard to see who you're stealing from

I hear you. It is an unlawful reproduction of it. It sucks that I am willing to pay A LOT OF MONEY for good DVD versions of the show and I just can't.

If it makes you feel any better, remember that the broadcaster would be the one liable for any copyright violations and such whether you watch it or not.

Who is "the broadcaster" in this scenario?

I guess the webmaster would be the re-broadcaster.

it has the wonder years... fairly good quality for such an old show that hasnt been in syndication for many years.

you may just need to read the forums to learn to set up your computer to watch them...

i am a good lawyer

and i'm wondering what he would be stealing and from whom, if this show isn't for sale (legally) on the market and it isn't being shown on tv currently

what property is being deprived of its owner?

its because the rights belong to whoever owns it... and the owner could argue that they don't want their footage being shown. Could argue that they are in negotiations to have it bought by another station?

i don't know what kind of syndication deals are on the horizon. the fact that isn't on tv lends me to believe the show either costs to much to re-air or doesn't have much of a market

and there is essentially a 0-5% chance this ends up on DVD

i am sure it has a huge market if they could afford it... the music rights are what makes it so expensive... or so i have heard

same reason it wont hit dvd

there wasn't a thought of "oh we need to reserve the use of these songs for portable home device usage" when they were getting the rights to play the songs on tv. i assume these rights were already reserved and handled for re-airing on tv

i could be wrong
