and they keep saying things like well in the book the room number was 217. Well in the book there was no big wheel. Well in the book there were no twins.

Is this annoying to anyone??

Somebody just watched The Shining...

As someone who loves both the original Stephen King novel and the brilliant Stanley Kubrick cinematic adaptation, I do find it a little perplexing how much Kubrick altered the story to suit his artistic intentions.

There are a number of significant scenes and character traits which are completely omitted in the film. Then again, it's probably my favorite horror flick.

Well actually it was me who was making the comments and my husband told me to well go into the other room. He says I do that all the time and it's annoying. I probably do that quite a bit because I love to watch movies based on a book I have read in order to see how closely the movie adheres to the book. The Shining just happens to be one of the worst adaptations IMO.
I didn't realize this was annoying - kinda hurt my feelings just a little...

I annoy myself by noticing the differences. I ruin the movie for myself, but don't verbalize it. For example, 11/22/63 was vastly different than the series and the show was ruined for me

I pretty much go into any movie from book situation knowing that the movie just isn't going to be as good. Some are worse than others like The Shining and Less Than Zero. But some are actually good like Shutter Island.

Nothing wrong with just saying..

Haha, are you saying it during the movie? Maybe say it after. Idk.. Maybe he's taking it the wrong way.. Are you saying it to complain or are just simply stating the facts of the book? If you are saying it in a disappointing way then perhaps it ruins his experience because he may not care about the book.

Some people just don't like when people make comments during the viewing. If you are nitpicking too much it may become less pleasant. Like you said, you go into the movie already knowing it's not going to be 100% authentic.. I personally wouldn't care if you pointed out the differences depending upon how you said it.

This is why I like reading the book after I've seen the movie. Instead of feeling like something was ruined for me, I'll feel like I have a secret on the people who didn't read the book too.

It shouldn't hurt your feelings, but yea, it's annoying as frick when you're trying to get immersed in something and someone else keeps interrupting. That'd be like going to the movies and having the people around you talking on their cell phones the whole time.
