Given that Kyle was a habitual liar I'm sure there are a lot of events in the book that didn't happen either.

Movie wasn't good at all. Laughable that it got an AA nom for best picture.

To all the fricktards giving me shite for not loving the movie, suck my sweaty ballsack. It didn't live up to the book, so live with it. I've seen better and worse war movies.

The fanatical defending of this movie is a little bizarre and lot frightening.

But I had read that much of the movie was fictionalized, so I wasn't very enthused about watching it.

So why did you watch it?

I read the book dude, I know about their endless hours of watching for a threat. Sorry if I like movies to be accurate and realistic. If I want to watch fiction, I watch fiction.

It is virtually impossible to translate a book verbatim into film. It just doesn't work very well 90% of the time. The desire is to maintain essence and necessary facts.

In conclusion, although I like Eastwood and Cooper, I don't think they hit a homerun.

I can't say it was a homerun, but I really liked it. War movies tend to be "my thing" anyway - my favorite film before Blade Runner took its place was Patton (no shite, I watched that movie at 3 years old and have been a war movie/military history fiend ever since).

But, I liked Lone Survivor and, obviously, Blackhawk Down better. And Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite directors - particularly his later work (excepting Million Dollar Baby - not my cup of tea) - and even his excellent WWII films.

American Sniper wasn't bad at all, it just wasn't great either. All in all, a little meh and a bit disappointing.

It's a decent movie that is worth your time, especially if you like the genre (or snipers), but in terms of a "war movie" it doesn't hold a candle to movies like Saving Private Ryan, Platoon, We Were Soldiers, etc.

Totally agree. In just that genre alone, it's below average IMO.
