Was Anakin the most powerful Star Wars character?

Yeah, Luke got him at the end of ROTJ, but Anakin's giving in to the dark side weakened him IMO. At full potential, couldn't Anakin have been the most powerful Jedi of all time?
Yoda, Mace Windu, and Luke are all legendary. But at their peaks, Anakin would come out triumphant against them all.
And where would Obi-Wan rank?

Mace > Emperor > Vader > Yoda > Obi Wan > Luke
eta: Mace had the Emperor beat until Anakin stepped in. Yoda couldn't beat the Emperor (yes, he was old when they faced each other). I believe Obi Wan was better than Anakin, but not as good as Vader. Less emotion is better. That's why I have Luke rated so low. Same with Anakin.

Great discussion. I have a quick SW question though. What was with the smirk Obi Wan gave Vader before he let him kill him? What were they colluding to do?

He said something about "if you strike me down I'll become more powerful than ever." I don't remember the exact quote but it along those lines. I've always thought he became some sort of angel or god type. His body just vanished when Vader hit him. I never thought he was dead, just transformed into some higher being.

Didn't Anakin's readings go "off the chart"? I believe he was considered as a kid to be the very best?
But I haven't seen that movie in 5 years.

Well he became part of the force and helped Luke destroy the Death Star right?

They said his "midi" count or whatever was off the charts. I don't remember any other character's levels being mentioned, but I haven't seen the older movies in years and never got into the side stories (only watched the films)

Obi Wan knew his human days were limited. He prepared himself for the afterlife by becoming one with the force. The smile served two purposes in my opinion. Obi Wan knew he would be stronger and more effective in helping Luke by dying. And he wanted Luke to see Vader strike him down to fuel Luke's quest of becoming a Jedi Knight.

Good stuff

I'm not a huge Star Wars nerd but from what I've gathered Anakin had the highest potential of any Jedi in recent years. Luke fought an aged and weakened Vader, but Luke was also new to the force himself. In time I think Luke would have become everything Anakin was supposed to have become.
But apparently a lot of ancient Jedi and Sith would kick the shite out of their newer counterparts. It's not Canon, I think, but a character like Revan from KOTOR would mop the floor with Anakin, the Emperor, etc IMO.

His midi-chlorians, which supposedly measures how in tune a person is with the Force and by extension, their potential, was off the charts and higher than Yoda's.

I've always thought that Obi Wan was the "strongest' in that he won every battle he fought to win (excluding when he let Vader kill him). Anakin was suppose to have the 'highest midi-whatever' even "higher than Master Yoda" is the quote from Obi Wan to Qui Gon(sp?).
That being said Obi Wan beat Lord Vader at his full strengthen full of anger on that lava planet. I think that battle (one of the few redeeming qualities of the prequels) solidifies Obi Wan as the best at overall combat.
Maybe the emperor or yoda had more knowledge and mysterious powers.

I agree with Caplewood mainly because i just wrote it but he had left his account up on my computer.

Luke didn't have nearly the training that these other guys did though and he was still a beast.

Dooku beat Obi Wan twice and Anakin beat Obi Wan.*
*ETA I mean Dooku.

Obi Wan beat Anakin at what I'd guess was the strongest he ever was (he became Vader right after due to the injuries I think). So I guess he's up there. Of course he never demonstrated the force lightening so I'm boot sure what that says.

I agree that Obi Wan was superior in his combat. I was giving Anakin/Vader a mulligan on the lava planet because he was an emotional train wreck. Once he was 100% Vader, there was no more bullshite.
On a side note. I always wondered why Obi Wan let Anakin live.
