The nerds bitching over details would be 100x what Episode 7 is getting.

which is ironic since the lore in WoW is pretty terrible to start with.

I'm not a fan of the source material but Duncan Jones has made two really good movies so I'm somewhat interested in seeing how this turns out.

But I feel like it's been in production for SO long and there's hardly any buzz about it, which can't be a good sign.

A WoW movie should have been released around 2008. It's lost a lot of pop culture ground since then.

I keep forgetting how huge Stormwind City is supposed to be.

A lot of the intitial players are long gone. A movie has potential but will not be as succesfull as it could have been around the WOTLK release.

A whole lot will depend on good word of mouth for this movie. Old and new players will go see it, but to be successful they're going to have to appeal to a much wider audience. The fact that they moved it from a March release to a June release tells me that they think it's good enough to be a summer blockbuster.

I played WoW in 2005 for about six months.

I'll go see it.

But I know that there are lots of people who didn't play WoW and those people think WoW is for nerds and dorks. I don't see any way they spend money on a movie like this.

But WoW has had millions of players over the last decade, so I'm sure it could make some good money if it's a decent movie.

Which is why it will need some really good word of mouth, not just from ex-players. I bet it will have a respectable opening weekend, but the second weekend will tell a lot about how good of a job they've done.

Something else this movie needs is a series.

WoW (or any Warcraft game) isn't a game that is focused on a single plot in a linear setting. It's an expansive world and full of opportunities for exploration.

I don't see how this movie will be that much different than LotR unless it becomes a huge franchise like Star Wars is becoming.

Agree with most here that this seems too late. A 2007 audience would have been all about raiding MC on the big screen.

Apparently the way to view it is to download the Legendary app on your phone, then download the video. I didn't know this was a thing, but it's pretty cool.
